As the title says.

Also what name could Mia be a nickname of?

Mia and Ella are both overused IMO.

Elizabeth is timeless with loads of great nn options.

I like Lila, but would you pronounce it Leela or Lyla?

MiamyMIa · 24/03/2018 14:48

Lyla
Which nn do you like for Elizabeth? I like it written down but not zoo sure about the the th sound at the end .

I prefer Elizabeth by a mile! Pet names could be Beth, Libby or Lizzie.

babycakes1010 · 24/03/2018 14:55

I have a Mia and she tends to get called mimi a lot

LoveInTokyo · 24/03/2018 14:55

I think the great thing about Elizabeth is that they can choose the nickname they like based on their personality as they age.

I had two friends called Lizzie when I was little. One is now an accountant called Liz, and the other is now a model/actress called Ella.

I like the “th” sound. I could never use Elizabeth as a name for a daughter though because my husband is French and pronounces it Elizabett.

RoryHatesCoffee · 24/03/2018 14:58

I love Lila, pronounced Lyla.

Personally I think Elizabeth is boring, especially if you have a common or dull surname and she's likely to meet another of the same full name.

APigInAWig · 24/03/2018 14:59

Lila. I love it

MiamyMIa · 24/03/2018 15:03

ohh, more confuse dthan before. Wink

I like the simplicity of Mia a lot too. Does it ever get mispronounced?
Thanks!

We actually do have extended French family, would Mia work in France?

GreasyHairDoNotCare · 24/03/2018 15:05

Love lyla! That's what our little one would have been is he was a girl.

colouringinagain · 24/03/2018 15:07

Elizabeth every time. Lots of short options and long grown up version if career would benefit from it Wink

CharlieontheMTA · 24/03/2018 15:08

Elizabeth can become:
Betsy
Liz
Lizzie
Beth
Ellie
Eliza
Lilabet (snagging the Queen's nickname!)
Ella
Elle

CharlieontheMTA · 24/03/2018 15:10

We have French family and they pronounce it Elisabet which I think is lovely.

userabcname · 24/03/2018 15:21

Elizabeth. Lovely name.

MikeUniformMike · 24/03/2018 15:29

Mia Farrow is Maria.... Farrow.
Lila makes me think of Lilo.
Ella could be short for quite a few names. I have suggested Rowella elsethread.
Elizabeth could be shortened to Lizzie,Izzy, Eliza, Lisa, Lily, Libby, Betty, Betsy, Bess, Elsie, Beth, etc.

LoveInTokyo · 24/03/2018 15:31

I didn’t know that about Mia Farrow. I love Maria, seems a shame to change it. Nothing wrong with Mia per se, but it is quite boring now.

MiamyMIa · 24/03/2018 15:37

Elizabeth coming out on top it seem.

I like Elizabeth a lot but am quite drawn to Mia too.

Anything that puts people off the name Mia at all? Thanks

I like the simplicity of Mia a lot too. Does it ever get mispronounced?

I know one Mia called "My-ah" and one called "Mee-ah"

I like Elizabeth best from your choices.
As others say, it gives her lots of options as she grows.

LoveInTokyo · 24/03/2018 15:47

For me it’s probably just the sheer popularity of the name. It’s also a bit little girly and there are no real nicknames options if she wants to be a bit different from all the other Mias out there.

Chickoletta · 24/03/2018 15:55

If I were to have another DD I'd call her Elizabeth and shorten to Elsie. My wonderful Grandma is a Betty and I also like Libby, but DH doesn't.

Mia is pretty but I prefer Elizabeth.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/03/2018 15:58

Mia could be a shortening of Amelia. Why not go with Mia, if you like it.
Elizabeth/Libby is nice.

JollyGiraffe · 24/03/2018 16:01

I like Elizabeth and Ella best from your list.

What about Eleanor?

Ellie, Elle, Nora....

Nightshiftmad · 24/03/2018 16:06

Love the name Lia that's a nice. Always the way asking about names you end up no nearer and answer and lots more options.

penguinsandpanda · 24/03/2018 16:10

Amelie is French and could have nn Mia.

MiamyMIa · 24/03/2018 18:21

Unfortunately I can't use Amelie though I like it. We have one in the family.

Elizabeth is nice too. Is it a tad dull? Too long 94 syllables)?
