As the title says.

Also what name could Mia be a nickname of?

I like Maya (as in Maya Angelou) better than Mia. Mia is fine but seems a bit weak?

Eliza/Lizzy/Libby are my favourite shortenings of Elizabeth. Very versatile name!

Personally I think Elizabeth is boring, especially if you have a common or dull surname and she's likely to meet another of the same full name.

I do agree with this. I'm an Elizabeth and have a surname as popular as Smith. I'm never the only one in the system wherever I go (stores, doctors, university etc).

However, I think Mia, Lila, Ella would face the same problem if you have a common surname, especially being born in 2018.

You could always have Elizabeth with Ella as a shortening.

How about Elise ?

MadMaryBoddington · 25/03/2018 10:53

Elspeth is more interesting than Elizabeth, which is a bit dowdy. Eliza is a lovely alternative too.

Mia is nice as long as it’s pronounced mee-a not My-a. So many My-as around (with various creative spellings).

Elizabeth / Elisabeth is by far the nicest

You could go with Elise (which is French)
Beth
Eliza
Lillibet
Liz
Libby
Lizzie

Elizabeth is very boring, I also dont like the 'Beff' sound at the end.
I prefer Lila but would probably spell it Lila.

I'm a 43 yr old Elizabeth and always been very happy with my name. Elizabeth to my parents and people I don't know, Liz at work and home. NEVER Lizzie!!! Yuck!

MikeUniformMike · 25/03/2018 18:19

Never heard anyone say Elizabeff.

kaytee87 · 25/03/2018 18:56

@upsideup where's the 'beff' sound? It's beTH
