Ok, so we are 29 dpo (and pregnant) and we would love your input on our girl names. We have our boy name (Leo, for Leonardo DiCaprio and Leo from charmed since I'm a dork. Also we just really like the name). However we are stuck on our girl name and would love to hear your opinions on both of these names and which one you like better. Thank you! 😊

Hailey is just a different spelling of Hayley. A 50yr old's name.
Prefer Cara to Cora.

Sophronia · 24/03/2018 12:21

Cora

Baubletrouble43 · 24/03/2018 12:24

Cora is gorgeous. Leo is a great name too btw. Congratulations!

llangennith · 24/03/2018 12:28

Wondered why Hailey looked odd!
It’s HAYLEY.

MammieBear · 24/03/2018 12:36

Hailey, never hear of it anymore I only like Cora if it's short for cordelia.

AlyTab · 24/03/2018 13:17

Seeing a lot of love for Cora! Leaning more towards Cora I must say but we're still torn.

@llangennith so there can only be one spelling for a name? It's not like it's a weird spelling - there are several ways to spell Hailey. I originally wanted to go with Haley but thought Hailey was a more phonetic spelling since a few people thought it was somehow pronounced as HAL-EE

Going against the grain here - I like Hailey.

LoveInTokyo · 24/03/2018 13:22

And there is nothing wrong with spelling it Hailey. I like it.

Oysterbabe · 24/03/2018 14:09

Cora is nicer.
Much prefer the Hayley spelling if you go that way.
What's the weather like today? Hailey.

InTheRoseGarden · 24/03/2018 14:25

Hailey for me but they're both nice

BennyTheBall · 24/03/2018 14:26

Hailey is atrocious.

windchimesabotage · 24/03/2018 14:27

Cora is very beautiful!

harrietm87 · 24/03/2018 15:06

I prefer Cora.

But if you go for Hailey I would spell it Hayley. My name is the less common version of a standard name (like Claire/Clare, Catherine/Katherine) and it is a total pain in the arse as everyone always gets it wrong.

FairyFantastic · 24/03/2018 15:07

Cora

AlyTab · 24/03/2018 15:35

The Cora love! Thank you for the lovely comments on the names everyone :)

Hailey is actually the most common spelling, then after that was my first choice of spelling - Haley. Third is Haylee, and in Fourth comes Hayley. I don't know why some people are saying that my spelling is uncommon or odd.

According to names.darkgreener.com/#hailey
For 2016 Hailey is 1086th and Hayley is 516th. So the Hayley spelling is about twice as popular. It used to be much more, in 1996 Hailey was 1222nd was and Hayley was 57th, making Hayley about 20 times more popular than Hailey.

ReversingSnail · 24/03/2018 16:10

I really like Hayley. It sounds summery and outdoorsy. It's underused and would make a refreshing change.

I don't like Cora, it just makes me think of an apple corer. Cara is much nicer IMHO.

Emily7708 · 24/03/2018 16:22

I like Hayley. Never seen it written as Hailey before, must be American - I think you’ll have a lifetime of correcting it. Hailey is a place in Oxfordshire or a horrible skin condition whereas Hayley is a name.

llangennith · 24/03/2018 16:29

The two Cordelias I know are shortened to Cordie, not Cora.

Heartofglass12345 · 24/03/2018 16:32

I like hailey because its my name Grin (with a 'y' though, but you'd be surprised how many different ways I've seen people spell it lol)
But I love Cora, it would definitely be on my list if I was pregnant!

AmysTiara · 24/03/2018 16:33

Cora definitely. I don't like Hailey at all. The Hayley spelling is better but it's not a nice name.

harrietm87 · 24/03/2018 16:53

OP are you looking at an American site for popularity? (Are you in the UK?)

I've come across maybe 10 hayleys in the UK, all spelled that way. Not scientific I know but I'd be very surprised if you're right that hailey is more common here.

harrietm87 · 24/03/2018 16:54

Ah I see that @Oysterbabe actually has the stats!

AlyTab · 24/03/2018 17:13

I'm from the UK but I was looking at global stats. I've never actually met a Hailey or any variants of the name. I've met a Kayleigh though.

Hailey/Haley/Hayley feels very dated which probably means it's due for a revival soon!

I prefer Coraline or Coral to Cora, personally.
