What do you think of Enid for a girl? I think it sounds strong and fits in well with the granny chic style around at the moment. It also makes me think I the author whose books I loved as a child.

Any thoughts? Do you know any?

One of the most awful, ugly names in existence.

RavenWings · 20/03/2018 19:31

Horrifically ugly name imo.

ursulaisawonderfulname · 20/03/2018 19:35

Agree with Tatiana and Raven.

Ruffian · 20/03/2018 19:37

It's sort of cute but too weird - bit like a hobbit name, I wouldn't want to be saddled with it.

Topseyt · 20/03/2018 19:37

I'm afraid I find it ugly too.

It will forever be associated with Enid Blyton, for better or worse.

Crazyladee · 20/03/2018 19:40

Reminds me of Enid Blyton. Love it!

Crazyladee · 20/03/2018 19:41

I always thought the d at the end was silent though?

squoosh · 20/03/2018 19:42

If I had to pick the girls' name that I thought was the ugliest Enid would definitely be a contender. Maybe Bertha would pip it to the post.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/03/2018 19:43

If you like Enid, you may also like Maude.

EventNotInData · 20/03/2018 19:45

It makes me think of this backup nickname which I find cool but a bit strange for a baby.

Dozer · 20/03/2018 19:45

Horrible name, and Enid Blyton was a horrible parent. Her books don’t stand the test of time at all well. Her nastiness comes through.

Yvest · 20/03/2018 19:45

Terrible

MikeUniformMike · 20/03/2018 19:49

Enid pronounced Enn-id (the 'i' as in the word 'big')is nice. It's an The name Arthurian Legend name. The name Enid is: From the Welsh 'enaid,' meaning soul or life. Also faithful or abused wife. Famous bearer: children's writer Enid Blyton.

Enaid is pronounced ENN-ide.

I'm not keen on EE-nid

Time40 · 20/03/2018 19:54

My mum was called Enid, so I'm very biased. I think it's a gorgeous name, and I would love it to come back.

JanuaryJuniper · 20/03/2018 19:54

Absolutely adore Enid and would consider it if we ever had another dd!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/03/2018 19:55

Yes it's up there with Bertha imo too.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 20/03/2018 19:55

Nope

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 20/03/2018 19:57

I think of a dumpy ugly bitter old woman - and while that might be exactly who I am it’s not a name for a baby

BasinHaircut · 20/03/2018 19:57

I can only hear that name in the voice of Lois Griffin. Ruined it for me and luckily we had a boy.

Petalflowers · 20/03/2018 19:58

Fine name. If you love it, use it.

When I grew up, I thought names such as George, Harry, iris and Grace were old fashioned, and now they are everywhere,

Speedy85 · 20/03/2018 20:03

Due a revival I think.

There’s a song I like by the Barenaked Ladies called Enid.

Ruffian · 20/03/2018 20:04

Enn-id? I've only ever heard it pronounced EE-nid

Scribblegirl · 20/03/2018 20:08

Love it but DP hates it!

Sophronia · 20/03/2018 22:14

I really like it. Edith is making a comeback so why not Enid?

Gacapa · 20/03/2018 23:30

Possibly the ugliest name ever. I think it's horrible.

But it's odd, with names. My DD is Edie. And objectively I can see that they're kind of similar - in trend, how they look and even sound.

But to me one is the best name ever and the other is the opposite. Aesthetically. Phonetically.

Fascinating, really.
