What do you think of Enid for a girl? I think it sounds strong and fits in well with the granny chic style around at the moment. It also makes me think I the author whose books I loved as a child.

Any thoughts? Do you know any?

YY Gac - love Edith and Edie. But Enid is a totally different kettle of fish for some reason. Think the NID thing makes it sound all wrong.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/03/2018 12:26

I much prefer Enid to Edie, but thankfully we all have different tastes!

Faintlinesquints · 21/03/2018 12:29

I really like the name Enid, reminds me of the teen girl in The Walking Dead. It's a sweet name and can be carried through any age.
I normally don't like 'granny' names that are making a comeback, but I do like this. I'm not a fan of Edith at all.

Snowysky20009 · 22/03/2018 10:17

Its a horrible name. Plus I knew a lady with the name who was horrid. So I'm obviously associating the name with a person, rather than a name in its own right. Much prefer Edie, but then not Edith.......

BennyTheBall · 22/03/2018 10:20

It's an ugly name to me.

DarkRoomDarren · 22/03/2018 11:18

I know a 2yo Enid! I thought it was really lovely when I heard it and still quite unusual.

I think girl names ending in -id are very strong and also a bit ‘marmite’; Ingrid, Enid, Astrid.

Omgineedanamechange · 22/03/2018 11:23

Hate it, so ugly, plus as others have said, always brings to mind the hideous racism of Enid Blyton.

Belindabauer · 22/03/2018 23:59

I like it and I'm surprised it's not more popular.

FannyHertz · 23/03/2018 07:21

Ds is 13 and would have been an Enid if he was a girl (damn hormones!)
I hate it now though and am relieved he was a boy!

Imagine being in a class with Olivia, Imogen, Isabella, Charlotte, Annabelle, Eleanor and being saddled with the awful name - Enid.

Why would anyone do that to their daughter?

pipilangstrumpf · 23/03/2018 08:12

Imagine being in a class with Olivia, Imogen, Isabella, Charlotte, Annabelle, Eleanor and being saddled with the awful name - Enid.

This just goes to show how subjective our tastes are. I find Imogen really ugly and harsh and Olivia reminds me of an olive. And Isabella is SO overused and dull. Enid sounds fresh, beautiful and classy to my ears.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/03/2018 08:16

What I was trying to say though was I doubt Enid would think her name was beautiful and classy if all her friends had names that I quoted. Enid would stick out like a sore thumb. I doubt she'd be thankful to her parents for choosing it put it that way!

DrMumMum · 23/03/2018 08:16

I like it, though I prefer Ena. If I had a girl I would definitely have an Ena. Smile

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/03/2018 08:18

Ena Sharples. Enough said!

I am Grin at Gnid 😂

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/03/2018 15:49

Utterly hideous, although I do know a chic granny called Enid!

margaritasbythesea · 23/03/2018 15:50

Much prefer Erica

GayAllen · 23/03/2018 15:52

Ugly and Enid Blyton was horrible.

inamechangedforthispost · 23/03/2018 15:57

Think it's awful.

n0ne · 23/03/2018 16:00

Love it

buttercup54321 · 23/03/2018 23:39

Edna
Edwina
Elaine
Eliza
Emerald
Elspeth

Enid and Ethel both horrible.

everybodysang · 23/03/2018 23:47

Hate Enid. Utterly repellent name.

Astrid is beautiful.

Buxbaum · 24/03/2018 04:55

I like it a lot, especially with the Welsh pronunciation. The one that I know also uses the alternative Welsh spelling, Enyd.

AlyTab · 24/03/2018 05:25

I don't love it. It's not a bad name in my opinion but I don't like the "granny chic" trend that's happening as you say. Enid from the walking dead makes the name slightly more appealing to me.

Maybe you would like Annabeth?

PinkAvocado · 24/03/2018 05:38

Never seen a name get such strong reactions! I like it though. I wouldn’t mind being called it and that’s pretty much how I judge a name.

I would hate being called Olivia, Imogen or Isabella though.
