Violet because Iris makes me think of eyeballs.

bridgetreilly · 11/03/2018 13:10

Iris just slightly over Violet, but both are lovely.

tillyluce · 11/03/2018 13:21

I'm biased but Violet 💜

Iris is very pretty too though. If popularity is an issue for you then maybe it's best to go with it. We didn't realise how popular Violet was until we started looking at sites like these but by then we loved Violet too much to care.

GeekyBlinders · 11/03/2018 13:24

I know a lovely Violeta...

Iris.

I have an Iris, so while that would always get the nod from me, I do adore Violet as well.

In fact, when my older sister used Violet on my 18yo DN, I was very disappointed. Then the tables turned, because I used Iris on DD1, who was born just three weeks before sister's second daughter. Unbeknown to me, sister and her DH had planned on using Iris. I'm just glad she didn't get to beat to me to both names!

Anyway, you can't go wrong with either, and there's no a huge difference in popularity (both are in the Top 100), so just go with what your heart tells you.

I love Iris. I like Violet too but that’ll be shortened to Vye at some point.

Redpramlady · 11/03/2018 19:40

Iris

Violet

pimlicolife · 11/03/2018 20:26

Oh definitely Violet. I don't think Iris is a pretty name at all.

TatianaLarina · 12/03/2018 08:50

Love both, but Violet edges it for me. Violet doesn’t have to be Vi, can also be Lettie or Ettie.

I would use the other as a middle name.

n0ne · 12/03/2018 08:51

Both lovely but I adore Iris

valafitz · 12/03/2018 19:41

Violet.. I love V-names!

VileyRose · 12/03/2018 20:09

Biased here too. But always told it's a lovely name. Lettie is a good nn.

vitaminC · 12/03/2018 20:59

Violet is one of those names I feel I should like but don't. It's just too close to "violent" to be pleasant, IMO.
Iris is much nicer sounding, although the only Iris I've never known personally was a bit miserable.

DeliveredByKiki · 12/03/2018 21:01

Iris, I love love love this name

Violet is too far into old granny for my liking (up there with Marigold)

Violet is fun and classic and cool.
Iris is a bit meh. A bit more of a middle name than a first name.

Ellapaella · 12/03/2018 22:15

Iris

MonsteraDeliciosa · 12/03/2018 23:01

Violet. My granny was Violet and unutterably lovely.

meettherussians · 13/03/2018 11:35

Violet, definitely. Graceful and beautiful but not twee.

Iris sounds harsh and squeaky like nails rubbed over blackboard and makes me also think of eyeballs.

MammieBear · 13/03/2018 13:02

Which flower do you prefer?...
