Baby with no name !!!

So I have a 3 week old dear little baby boy born Valentine's day... still without a name !

(poor bear !)

But I'm just really struggling to decide what to call him !

He has a 6 year old brother named Gabriel with whom I had no trouble naming whatsoever ( as it's my favourire boy's name)

I'm looking for something with a romantic link and I do like names with lovely meanings. Also something a little different but not too faddy/celeb..that can be shortened and something that stands up to Gabriel.

So .. my short list is...

Rafferty ( Raffy/Rafe)
Rafael (Raffy/Rafe) - son's favourite (Also an archangel like Gabriel)
Theodore (Teddy/Ted/bear) Means gift of god.. and is saintly
Roman (Romey/Rome/Manny) Valentines was a roman festival.
Romeo (Romey/Rome/Manny) obvious valentine link... but maybe too obvious !

Middle names - Would like to use William or Melvyn or both.. (Mine and partner's Dads)

And/or maybe a combination with the first names that don't get chosen.

ie. Rafael Theodore Melvyn Hopkins
Roman Theodore William Hopkins

I really would appreciate your feedback... as it's getting beyond silly now !

I know a couple of valentines. They go by Val, which isnt quite so nice. I also know two children with valentine as a middle name.

I like raphael.

I like Rafael but I'm biased as that's my son's name!

What nicknames (if any)does your lovely boy go by...

Does he get many comments about his name ?

Does he/his friends like it... ???

And what middle names did you give him ??

Oh and what made you go for the 'f' spelling as oppose to 'ph'..

Very interested in how Rafael works out outside a forum in the real world ...

My little Rafael is only 4 so not at school yet

His main nickname is Rafa but he gets called anything from Raffy , Raf (nursery), Baffy - we aren't ones for sticking to Am a single nn.

No one has ever said anything negative about the name. His middle name is Alexander which was mainly his Dad's suggestion, although I like it. I was quite keen of Frederick for a middle name or Thomas.

He seems to like his name and often corrects us that he is "Rafael Alexander Surname". Surname begins with a B but his Dad isn't a Harry potter fan and was adamant that RAB is not a reason not to called him that!

My dd also has an angel name and no one has ever thought it was weird.

Went with f spelling becuase my family is Italian and it's more similar to the Italian Raffaele (which I don't like as much because I see it as an old man's name!). Also at the time dd was in reception and everything was phonics, so I thought it would be easier for him to spell when he started school.

Funnily enough, six months after he was born I ran into an x boyfriend I hadn't seen for years and he had a son called Raphael!

I chose dds middle name and we made joint choices of the first names which was why exh got to choose ds's middle name as I thought it was only fair! Also I didn't have fixed preference.

Having been recently active on MN over the last few weeks.. I have just realised I never actually confirmed the name we decided on for my baby bear!!!

So after 6 weeks of deliberating.. Yes 6 weeks..!!! Taking in all your wonderful feedback.. And much to my son's delight..

We named him

Rafael Theodore William ❤️

An archangel.. Saint and a Prince all rolled into one!

Our gorgeous now little 2 and a half year is affectionately known as Rif Raf, Rafa Cake and of course Raffy bear 🐻

(Currently trying for another cub.. So get your naming caps on girls 😉)
