Baby with no name !!!

So I have a 3 week old dear little baby boy born Valentine's day... still without a name !

(poor bear !)

But I'm just really struggling to decide what to call him !

He has a 6 year old brother named Gabriel with whom I had no trouble naming whatsoever ( as it's my favourire boy's name)

I'm looking for something with a romantic link and I do like names with lovely meanings. Also something a little different but not too faddy/celeb..that can be shortened and something that stands up to Gabriel.

So .. my short list is...

Rafferty ( Raffy/Rafe)
Rafael (Raffy/Rafe) - son's favourite (Also an archangel like Gabriel)
Theodore (Teddy/Ted/bear) Means gift of god.. and is saintly
Roman (Romey/Rome/Manny) Valentines was a roman festival.
Romeo (Romey/Rome/Manny) obvious valentine link... but maybe too obvious !

Middle names - Would like to use William or Melvyn or both.. (Mine and partner's Dads)

And/or maybe a combination with the first names that don't get chosen.

ie. Rafael Theodore Melvyn Hopkins
Roman Theodore William Hopkins

I really would appreciate your feedback... as it's getting beyond silly now !

I have 2 young cousins named Gabriel and Raphael, the two eldest of four brothers. Everyone says lovely things about their names and as far as I'm aware there've been no comments about both names being after archangels.

Have you decided yet OP? Just caught up on thread; And agree with others that Raphael or Rafferty would be lovely. Gabe and Raff

You could always used just Theo as a middle name if you didn't want two long middle names (think about him filling out forms when he's older! You don't want tooooo many characters!).

Off to centre parcs this week for a total chill out week.... so hoping to get my final inspiration from taking babe to the enchanted wood ❤

He has a cousin Benji ! And we had thrown Rupert into the mix... (another cute little bear reference!) But I am rather partial to longer first names...

Yes... Nathaniel was another name we considered... but Dad is Daniel - and thought maybe it a little to similar sounding. And think also that it may potentially get shortened to Nathan which we're not hugely taken with x

If your DS1 loves Raphael, then go for it! Its a great name. I also love Roman.

I prefer Rafferty to Raphael because it’s less of a mouthful.

I like the idea of using both William and Melvyn due to the family link...

However if we chose Raphael / Rafferty as a first name.. My partner would like Theodore as a middle name as that is his favourite choice.

So three middle names may be a little too much !

It's just my partner isn't overly keen.. and that's what sparked this whole debate off !

And Roman was a name I considered for my son Gabriel..

@Dollymixture77 haha we avoided public debate but it did take us a while to decide, we already have a William so baby's name needed to sound right when shouted together 🤣 we settled on Arthur in the end, I loved Theodore but my DH didn't 😞

@dollymixture77 I didn't 😞 William's middle name was after my DHs dad so Arthur was given my dad's name for his middle name.

My first was named after DH’s late grandpa. I always liked it and wanted to use it, but it rhymes with poo, so DH was unsure. I had DS1 late at night so had to stay in, when DH came the next morning he had told his Granny the name so no going back. I still love it 12 years later. Children over the years have call him queue, shoe, but never poo...

We had no list or idea for DS2. My brother’s wedding was 3 days after he was born so we trialled his name that day and we still likes it at the end of the day. My brother had a hand made bowl which everyone signed, DS2’s name has a question mark after it. Only after this did I realise it has so many different ways to spell it. Some relatives still spell it wrong...

I vote Rafael Theodore. Prefer the F spelling. Almost went for Rafael for my 5 week old (who also doesn't have a name yet but he will by the end of the month)

and... nooooooooo... and nearly fell out with my mum over yesterday who said I'm being silly !

It just seems the longer it goes on.. the more impossible it is to decide !

Just don't drink and then go register his name...I know someone whose dad did that and ended up registering the names the wrong way round!

Baby is going to be Konstantin Justus unless I have a last minute waver on making the official name Konstantin (going to call him Konsta day to day. Was almost going to be Niilo until I discovered it was in the top ten names last year in my country so that put me off). Actually I think I'll go fill out the name form right now so I can't change my mind!

I know someone went right up to the deadline because they couldn’t decide. Registered one name then almost immediately changed their mind, so had to go back and redo it or whatever you can do before they’re one which is reasonably easy.

I was immediately thinking Raphael as soon as I read your eldest is Gabriel and you want something romantic, without even getting to the bit where you state it as an option! I’d say Gabriel has good taste👌
