I have always loved the names Angela and Karen.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 06/03/2018 14:53

I think Angela, Marian, Sylvia, Shirley, Daphne, Patricia, etc are all due a rennaissance.

UsernameInvalid66 · 06/03/2018 15:18

Angela still sounds a bit dated to me but I wouldn't mind if it came back. I like it better than Angel for a girl, or the more "fussy" forms like Angelica. My favourite version is actually the Polish Aniela but I think now there are quite a lot of Polish children in the UK it might seem a bit disrespectful to "steal" one of their names!

GottaGetThisDone · 06/03/2018 16:55

I'm an Angela and have never had it shortened or lengthened or altered at all
I'm not a huge fan of my name, I always wanted to be Laura or Lucy or something I thought was 'girly' but I do agree it is due a comeback :)

As an aside Angela Merkel pronounces her name with the g pronounced as in Geller, (Uri Geller) when I graduated I was worried the announcer would pronounce my surname wrong, he didn't but he did pronounce Angela a la Merkel style Confused

flumpybear · 06/03/2018 17:03

Hhmmmm Angelica angelina or Angelique are all better but still not great

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/03/2018 17:37

Angela is 50+ and works in accounts.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2018 17:42

When I was growing up in the 70s there were about a dozen teenage girls on our street and three of them were Angelas, which means it's very dated now.

It's OK though, not horrendous or anything.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/03/2018 17:55

Yes it's a very 70's name. Along with Jackie, Diane, Julie, Alison and Debbie.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2018 17:58

Yes GreatDuckCookery, along with the three Angelas on our street we had one Julie, two Alisons and a Debbie. And we were at school with Jackie and Diane Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/03/2018 17:59

I was a child in the '70s and never knew an Angela - although I did know all the others on GreatDuck's list. In fact, I've never met an Angela in my whole life. I like it a lot. I think Angie is nice too. It's better than the flouncy Angeline/Angelica.

BeastInView · 06/03/2018 20:27

Yes, Angelas do always work in accounts!

HuskyMcClusky · 06/03/2018 20:31

The Angelas I know are all nurses.

GottaGetThisDone · 06/03/2018 22:00

I work in Healthcare and the other Angelas i know work in same settings lol do agree we are all 50+ lol

RaindropsAndSparkles · 06/03/2018 22:07

The Angelas I know are 50's/60s children.

Angelas and nursing. Anyone remember a tv programme called "Angels" about student nurses?

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2018 22:09

Ooh yes! I loved Angels.

liquidrevolution · 06/03/2018 22:18

I work with an Angela who is into heavy metal.

I'm also reminded of Angela the stalker on Sean's Show in the 90s Grin

However I actually like the name. I also like Karen. Much prefer these names to some of the more modern trends.

Gacapa · 09/03/2018 22:05

I absolutely love the name Angie. It's just so cool.

Tunic · 09/03/2018 22:17

There is nothing wrong with it. My ds is in a class with an Angelina and also a Paulina!

Trialsmum · 09/03/2018 22:22

I think it’s a few more years before it’s due a comeback...

mrsnolasco · 09/03/2018 22:23

I know an Angela (Ange). She isn't very nice, we call her Flange.
