I need some opinions please! Baby girl due in 3 weeks. Was all set on Alara for weeks and loved how original it is but have been having doubts recently that might be too flouncy or out there? Also quite like shortening names and not sure where we would go with it. The other main two are Thalia (or Talia) or Isla but worried too popular. Arrrrgh I’m really going mad as so want to get it right but need help

I like it but prefer Elara

CorianderSnell · 02/03/2018 20:47

Alara is easy to pronounce and easy to spell, so I wouldn’t say it’s too out there. It’s lovely so I’d say go for it if that’s what you were most keen on.

Isla is very popular where I am (three in one of my kids classes). Thalia less so.

ChocolateCrunch · 02/03/2018 20:48

I also prefer Elara, which you can than shorten to Ellie. Not keen on Thalia/Talia because of pronunciation issues, and Isla is very popular.

Alara is beautiful.

I also like elara but dh already has an Ella x

That’s also something I’ve been a little worried about that alara is a little too close to Ella in sound

Alara is beautiful as is Elara. Also Elora (E-Laura).

Not out there, just unusual. 👍🏻

What about Alana?
Eleri
Elena
Anwen
Araya
Eira
Eiry

A1m19999 · 02/03/2018 21:29

Thanks those names are beautiful too. Sounds silly but I know an Alana that I don't particularly like so has kind of ruled that one out. I love Araya especially- also like Amaya too but dh not so keen

I know a little Liora which is very pretty

A1m19999 · 02/03/2018 21:55

Oooh that's one I haven't come across - very pretty

I love Talia.

Not hard to pronounce at all.

Argeles · 02/03/2018 23:59

Alara is lovely.

SuperBeagle · 03/03/2018 00:22

I think Thalia is the nicest of the bunch, and it's not remotely popular. It doesn't rank in the popularity charts in the UK and is in the 800s in the US.

Jasharps · 03/03/2018 00:33

I like thalia

Ella is very similar to Alara

Pollyisinmypocket · 03/03/2018 00:35

Aviana is my favourite and if I ever have a little girl that’ll be her name! Smile

TheLastMermaid · 03/03/2018 00:38

I know of a young Anaya, about 6/7yo. People don't seem to have trouble pronouncing etc. but it's distinctive and lovely.

Alara's lovely, though, go for it if you love it.

I love Isla but it's very popular now.

Dixiestampsagain · 03/03/2018 01:09

I think I prefer Elara to Alara; it could shorten to Allie, or Lara (my Lara gets called Lala!!) .

NameChangeDestroyer · 03/03/2018 15:36

Lorien
Alena
Anetta

daisypond · 03/03/2018 15:51

Alara is nice. But I prefer Thalia - you'll get pronunciation issues, though. Not Isla.

GottaGetThisDone · 03/03/2018 18:27

Talia is a beautiful name

youokayhun · 03/03/2018 18:33

I really like Alara. I'm friends with an Alana and call her "al" but then I also call DD who is an Ivy "ive" so not sure I'm to be trusted.

lanbro · 03/03/2018 18:38

I have an Alannia, pronounced Al-ann-ya

TheRedHatofPatFerrick · 03/03/2018 18:47

Alanna, Cliona, or Eleri.
