I need some opinions please! Baby girl due in 3 weeks. Was all set on Alara for weeks and loved how original it is but have been having doubts recently that might be too flouncy or out there? Also quite like shortening names and not sure where we would go with it. The other main two are Thalia (or Talia) or Isla but worried too popular. Arrrrgh I’m really going mad as so want to get it right but need help

Sorry just remembered you gave an Ella, how about Evanna.

applesandpears56 · 03/03/2018 21:11

Alara is awful - A Lara!
Thalia is pretty and unusual

applesandpears56 · 03/03/2018 21:12

Eleri would just get called celery by school kids

annammarsden · 03/03/2018 21:35

Arianna?
Like the name Alara though, and Thalia!
If I had another girl I thought of Thomasina, but Flora is pretty too! Sooo much Choice!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions- I still don't know. I knew alara would be one some people just didn't like but I still thinks it's beautiful.

How about Ilaria. Italian form of Hilary.

MikeUniformMike · 04/03/2018 13:58

Eleri is the same, only Welsh, and it's pronounced El-LERRy not ellery.

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 05/03/2018 04:52

Talia is a fab name! Less keen on Alara - it sounds a little harsh to my ear.

TheMonstrousRegiment · 05/03/2018 04:58

This is a completely different name, but thought I'd mention it as I'd come across it and thought it was gorgeous.

Kessia

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 05/03/2018 07:25

I've never heard of Kessia - but it's reminded me of a similar name: Keziah.

Minus4 · 05/03/2018 07:33

Never heard of Alara. Like Talia.

RebeccaCloud9 · 05/03/2018 07:40

Ooh I love these ideas. Really like Alara and Talia (pronounced tall ia or tarl ia?)

Amara was on my list - and Anya.

Lots and lots of Islas where I am.

flumpybear · 05/03/2018 08:01

Not Isla it's too popular like the Sarah of my era!

Have you thought of a illiana perhaps? Thalia /Talia is nice too prefer without the 'h'

Zoflorabore · 05/03/2018 08:43

Thea?

Avery?

Assia?

Potteryprincess30 · 05/03/2018 14:46

@AnyaMoondial I love Liora! I always suggest that one too Smile. Knew an absolutely stunning half french girl called Liora in my teens so I always think of her when I hear it.

@A1m19999 I feel like you need to go back to the drawing board completely. This can be the issue with deciding on a name early, by the time the due date and baby comes along doubts can set in. But honestly if your not pretty certain on any of them anymore scrap them all and start over.

3 weeks, maybe a month if your over due is a long time to research more and it can be really good to start over with these things Smile

A1m19999 · 05/03/2018 21:56

Maybe you're right-maybe we decided too soon! My other half is reluctant to go back to start and just wants to wait and see what she looks like but I can't help wanting to at least have some definite ideas beforehand. He's now favouring Isla out of our 3- any ideas for names with a similar feel but less popular. I quite like Iona x

Leonora?

Chickenagain · 06/03/2018 12:42

Olivia
Cecilia
Cressida
Cassandra

FizzyGreenWater · 06/03/2018 13:35

Sorry, don't like Alara at all. It sounds like a car! Fiat Alara.

FizzyGreenWater · 06/03/2018 13:36

Iona is lovely.

Anya?

A1m19999 · 06/03/2018 15:48

Unfortunately other half has vetoed Iona on the basis he's worried sounds like "I own a" and worried she'll get teased etc.

I find Alara really difficult to say for some reason, it just doesn't really flow as a word. I feel like it would sound like Lara more often that not

bugeyesue · 06/03/2018 19:07

My step daughter is called Alara, I like it. She always gets comments about how lovely her name is. The one thing the problems is that half the time she gets called Lara which she HATES, even teachers at school either call her Lara or Alanna!
