Evelina or Georgiana

Im just curious what everyone’s thoughts are on these names. I love both of them, but I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to use them, also feel I I will regret it if I choose something like Charlotte (a pretty name, but not quite as ‘special’ to me)
My husband particularly likes Evelina and wants Violet as the middle name.
DS is Alexander and we don’t shorten his name (although I suspect when he goes to school that will happen). We do like the nicknames for both the girls names - Evie/Lina and Georgie/Gigi.
I’m stuck! Any other suggestions welcome - I love Jane Austen/Georgette Heyer type names. Thanks.

Evelina pronounced Ever-leaner?

Justmuddlingalong · 25/02/2018 15:35

Sorry but they both look like too many vowels for the sake of it.

Muddlingalongalone · 25/02/2018 15:36

Not massively keen on either tbh.
What about Evangeline?

Emelene · 25/02/2018 15:38

I love Evelina, I think it's so pretty and underused. It sounds nice with her brother's name too I think. Smile

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 15:46

Georgiana is beautiful.

PhelanThePain · 25/02/2018 15:48

How is Evelina pronounced? I’ve never heard it before. I like Georgiana.

JennyOnAPlate · 25/02/2018 15:49

Ever leaner? I really wouldn't.

Georgiana is ok but I prefer Georgia or Georgina.

MrsMotherHen · 25/02/2018 15:50

I prefer evelyn but thats because i have an evelyn and funny enough i have a george too.

minipie · 25/02/2018 15:51

Evelina, really pretty and Evie is a lovely nn. Georgiana is a syllable too far for me. Love Georgia and nn Georgie though.

DorothyBastard · 25/02/2018 15:52

Evelina would make me think of the children’s hospital. Georgiana is okay.

Wishfulmakeupping · 25/02/2018 15:55

Georgiana is lovely but another one who prefers Georgia and nn Georgie

MrsBartlettforthewin · 25/02/2018 15:57

Both beautiful names. I'd go with Evelina personally as there are lots of Georgia/ Georginas that I teach and would feel that Georgiana just gets mixed into them. whereas as Evelina is different but not totally out there iyswim.

bombcyclone · 25/02/2018 16:01

Evelina is beautiful. And rare. With great nicknames.

Georgiana is a lovely name as well, but, as another poster suggested, pops up with more frequency.

SquirrelWatcher · 25/02/2018 16:02

Eh va Leena is how the Evelinas I know pronounce it. I've worked with quite a few Polish women called Evelina/Ewelina, so people might assume it is from a Polish heritage? Saying that I don't know if it's a Polish name that women in their 30s have, like Michelle/Sarah etc, that babies aren't being called now....

Babybell7 · 25/02/2018 19:25

Thanks for the replies.
It’s pronounced eh va leena.
I don’t like Georgia so that’s not a possibility.
Good to know they’re not too out there even if they’re not everyone’s cup of tea.

Georgiana, but I prefer Georgia.

OutyMcOutface · 25/02/2018 19:29

Evelina is lovely! Have you read the book?

OutyMcOutface · 25/02/2018 19:34

Oh and it's really not out there at all and extremely easy to pronounce. Both are.

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/02/2018 19:44

Both are beautiful and you can't go wrong with either

If I had to choose i'd go with Georgiana as though are so many Evie's about. Evelina really is lovely also though

pimlicolife · 25/02/2018 19:45

I love them both. I have a Georgette

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2018 19:47

Evelina is really lovely.

Georgiana is nice, although I slightly prefer Georgina.

CPtart · 25/02/2018 19:51

Too frilly, but love Georgina.

SuperBeagle · 25/02/2018 20:11

Evelina.

I don't like Georgiana because the pronunciation conflict bothers me. I would (as an Australian) pronounce it george-ee-ah-nah, but I've heard people from the UK pronounce it as george-ay-nah.

T00much · 25/02/2018 23:04

Love Evelina but prefer Georgia (which I really like) to Georgiana

T00much · 25/02/2018 23:05

And if you choose Evelina and want a nickname, Lina is gorgeous

Gigi is that with a g as in giraffe or as in the french je t'aime
