Which spelling will most people go for if they don’t know for sure? Go for that one. So- Melody.

I worked with someone called Melody. People used to think she was saying Melanie when she answered the phone. We used to hear a lot of ‘Melody, like the music’ so if it had been spelt in an unusual way that would have probably been a bit of a pain in the arse for her (and her colleagues)

Melody. If you spelled it Melodie I'd think you'd have to pronounce it the French way as it's a French word.
