Out of these legitimate spellings, which do you prefer?

Melody, but quite like Melodie

Ohyesiam · 03/02/2018 15:12

Melody, very pretty.

Melodie, ok, but it's just a wrong spelling.

Melodi, dire, and quite medical sounding.

halcyondays · 03/02/2018 15:17

only ever seen it as Melody.

Fridgedooropen · 03/02/2018 15:20

Melody.

daisypond · 03/02/2018 15:25

Melody. Although I don't mind Melodie. Not Melodi.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/02/2018 15:29

Definitely not Melodi, for all the reasons everybody else said.

Username12345 · 03/02/2018 15:29

Melodi would be more culturally relevant but I prefer the look of Melodie. Maybe because I also like Elodie.

Love the way OP has made this ^ statement in the opening post Grin

I think you know what everyone is going to say, hence that note to us all.
Anything other than Melody (if you are in the UK) is going to be mispelt for all of her life, which is a real pain when it is your own name.

daisypond · 03/02/2018 15:46

User - in what way is Melodi more culturally relevant? It's a standard spelling in your home language, for example?

Username12345 · 03/02/2018 17:08

Backforgood Most names I will choose will be mispelt, as they wont be traditionally English names. I included the note so all the posts wouldn't be about made up spellings.

Yes Daisy.

Melody.

blueskypink · 03/02/2018 17:49

Speaking as someone with a name that can be spelt in various ways, you'd be doing your dd a favour if you gave her a name with only one spelling.

daisypond · 03/02/2018 17:51

If Melodi is a word/name in your own language, then I think you're more than justified to use it if you want to, and I can see why you'd want to.

dangerrabbit · 03/02/2018 17:54

Melody

LemonysSnicket · 03/02/2018 21:54

Are you Swedish OP?

Yika · 03/02/2018 22:25

Melody.

Nice name.

Joeybee · 03/02/2018 23:20

Why would you mess around with the spelling. The usual and most popular spelling is Melody...so spell it that way. If you spell it any other way the child will have to spell out her name her whole life.

Jenna43 · 04/02/2018 11:27

Melody

WalkingUpTheMountain · 04/02/2018 11:40

100% Melody

Melody.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/02/2018 13:36

Do you just mean that in your home language, the word Melody would be spelled Melodi in order for it to 'fit' your language rules?

Or do you mean that in your language, Melodi spelled that way is a name?

If the latter, fine. If the former - no, it doesn't work like that for names, and you will find that it's just confusing for everyone and that speakers of your language will most likely think 'English derivation name' and spell it Melody anyway.
