We had almost settled on Katherine for DC 3 but dh has said he is going off it. We liked Kate for a shorter version but it sounds a bit short with our surname.
Opinions please on our other options:

Zoe
Lara
Zara
Sophie
Claudia
Julia

I like them all but Claudia is my favourite.

n0ne · 31/01/2018 21:27

Yes, Claudia!

NataliaOsipova · 31/01/2018 21:28

Like them all. I loved Claudia, but was put off by the meaning (lame) (and the fact that I wanted a family middle name that started with a J; we are all huge West Wing fans and wouldn't have been able to help ourselves from calling her CJ! 😂)

Not many people would know the lame meaning though; it must be a Latin root thing rather than what the word actually signifies, if you see what I mean.

Lara is nice too. Unusual but classic.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 31/01/2018 21:30

Zoe is my favourite, but I love Katherine, Kat/Kate.

QueenOlives · 31/01/2018 21:37

Similar to Lara, I really like Lauren
Otherwise not Sophie. Nice but there are so many.
Zoe good

QueenOlives · 31/01/2018 21:38

I've always loved Katherine.

Katie is nice could be Kate when older.

helpmum2003 · 31/01/2018 21:41

I like them all. Claudia/Sophie are my faves.

Would you consider Juliet? I think Julia is a good adult name but not sure about a child. Could use Julia as a nickname or Julie or Letty.....

Zaya71 · 31/01/2018 22:20

Katia, Katerina, Catriona, Caitlin could be other options and still get the Kate nn.

LoveInTokyo · 31/01/2018 22:47

I am an adult Katherine/Katie/Kate and I love it. It’s very versatile and suits all ages. Prefer it to your other names, although they’re all nice.

AlrightBabby · 31/01/2018 22:57

I know a Katherine that goes by Kitty - I like that!

HardRockHallelujah · 31/01/2018 23:03

If you like Lara and Zara, do you like Clara or Cara? Beautiful names.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2018 23:06

I love all your list, especially Zoe & Sophie.

bluechameleon · 31/01/2018 23:11

I like Zoe best from your list, then Claudia.

RupertsMum2 · 31/01/2018 23:17

I like Julia best from your list. I don't like Lara or Zara and Sophie is overused at the moment.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/02/2018 00:01

Zara
Claudia
Sophia rather than Sophie.

Other ideas.
Katrina.
Clarissa
Sienna
Sara
Juliette
Laura
Louisa
Lydia
Layla
Lucia
Zofia

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 01/02/2018 00:02

Sophie is one of the best names ever, but it is very popular.

Zoe's lovely. All the rest are fine, but don't grab me.

How about a variation on Katherine? Katinka?

Joeybee · 01/02/2018 00:19

I love Sophie!!!! And Julia. I feel Julia is such a beautiful and elegant name that is really underused.

SuperBeagle · 01/02/2018 01:13

I like Zoe and Julia best of your list.

Katerina?

RebeccaWrongDaily · 01/02/2018 01:24

Zoe, Lara or Claudia. Not sure where all the love for Katherine has come from (DD2 is Catherine / Kate so no hate for it!)

Sophie is really common, Zara is not great (Sarah/Sara is lovely though) prefer Juliet to Julia.

Do you like Phoebe? Frances? Harriet?

MikeUniformMike · 01/02/2018 18:50

Zoe - pretty, Z will come last in list of names
Lara - pretty
Zara - lovely, name of shop, starts with Z
Sophie - lovely but popular
Claudia - nice but I'd say no. Makes me think clod. Claudine is nicer.
Julia - no. Don't like Jules as a nn.

I think I would choose Zoe, but I made the point about the list order, because if her surname is Young or something it might be a PITA.

kaytee87 · 01/02/2018 18:51

Claudine or Juliet, nicer alternatives imo
Elizabeth?

NannyKasey · 01/02/2018 19:04

I'm Katherine and most of the time I'm called that. Call her by her full name if you like it and let her make the decision when she is older whether she wants to be Katherine, Kate, Katie, Kath, Kathy, Kitty (or something else entirely) Grin

BlackberryandNettle · 01/02/2018 19:04

Thanks for all your responses. It's a difficult one, think we are maybe leaning towards Zoe. It's true that Sophie is maybe a bit too popular right now. I'll consider the alternatives and also a possible middle name for Zoe

I love Julia and like Zoe, Sophie and Claudia.

If you wanted to include Katherine as a middle name, I think I like the flow of Zoe Katherine best.

Elfyn · 02/02/2018 19:21

Zoe Katherine is lovely!

My faves are Zara and Kate.
