Trying to narrow down names. Honest opinions please. We don't know if we're having a DS or DD.

Girls

Clara
Pearl
Rosa
Marianne
Elizabeth (DH hates this one for some reason)

Boys

Gene (DH wants Eugene, but I've told him it's not happening)
Rudy (I think this would look daft as a stand alone name on birth certificate though, and I'm not using Rudolph!)
Emett
Alexander
Lorcan (I love this, but DH says it sounds like locustGrin)

Thoughts appreciated pleaseSmile

Emett
Alexander only if use Alex
Lorcan (I love this, but DH says it sounds like Dislike

How about Iris?

ladystarkers · 26/01/2018 13:58

What about Rufus nn Rudy? Like Phobe.

Ithinkifoundit · 26/01/2018 13:59

We'll definitely have it as a middle name lark

I love Gene Dontsend You're right about it sounding like Jean, but I think that name is getting pretty rare now? Unless it's due for an old lady name revival?

IggyAce · 26/01/2018 13:59

Like Clara and Alexander. My ds has Alexander as his middle name because DH and I could agree on nn.
Personally I would spell Emmett this way.

TwigTheWonderKid · 26/01/2018 14:02

Sandy is another traditional diminutive of Alexander, would that work if you did want to use Alexander?

FWIW I think Eugene is fab!

What about Torsten, Magnus or Ellis?

Ithinkifoundit · 26/01/2018 14:04

I love Rufus ladystarkers Yet again DH doesn't like it though. So annoying. Do you really think Eugene for birth certificate? I thought it sounded a bit geeky. Really interesting to hear others opinions.
What is it with husbands finding rymes for the name Lorcan?
My grandma has two friends called Iris when I was little. It makes me think of old ladies I'm afraid. It is a pretty name though.

Rosa and Pearl - yes
Alexander only for the boy.
Last name I personally really didn't like and couldn't pronounce it easily

Ithinkifoundit · 26/01/2018 14:06

Another vote for Eugene Twig I may have to rethink my stance.

I really like Ellis. Unfortunately one of my best friends is planning to call their unborn future child that (if it's a girlShock I've told her a million times it's a boys name)

Marianne/Alexander

SometimesMaybe · 26/01/2018 14:11

Our neighbour is an Alexander and he’s 9 and he still gets the full name it’s never been shortened by friends or family. If you don’t like Alex then just correct people when the say it. I think it’s a lovely name.

I really like Lorcan too (Lorcan Alexander to keep the tradition going?)

Ithinkifoundit · 26/01/2018 14:16

I love Lorcan Alexander sometimes but DH says a flat no to Lorcan.

We will definitely have Alexander as a middle name thoughSmile

Would Lachlan be an option?

user1499786242 · 26/01/2018 14:27

Adore the name pearl
I would use it myself but our last name begins with p so sounds awful!

YerAuntFanny · 26/01/2018 14:27

I like Emmett and Rosa.

How about Ethan or Evan for a boy and Elena or Eliza for a girl?

These were all on our lists plus Francesca, Allanah and Ruairi which were my favourites.

LittleTinyPig · 26/01/2018 14:28

I like all your girls names, in this order: Rosa, Marianne, Elizabeth, Clara, Pearl. If your DH doesn't like Elizabeth can he be sold on any of the thousands of nicknames? (Libby, Lizzie, Beth, Bess, Bessie, Elsie, Elsa, Liza etc etc)

Of your boys names the only one I would use myself is Alexander, and in fact have. I also didn't like Alex as a shortening and tried a whole range of other things but they did't stick, he did become an Alex and I don't mind it now. I would say that it is vastly more popular a name than I had anticipated, there seem to be Alexs everywhere and at least one in every class round here.

I do like Gene, but I'm another who thinks Eugene should go on the bc.

EggsonHeads · 26/01/2018 14:31

Elizabeth and Alexander.

helpmum2003 · 26/01/2018 14:34

Alexander definitely.

Clara classic and simple.

Marianne 2nd choice.

I love Rose rather than Rosa and think it goes well with Marianne.

Good luck!

daisypond · 26/01/2018 14:36

I like the girl names, but Marianne wins by a mile. Or Elizabeth.
Boys - Alexander or Lorcan. Rudy if it was Rudolph, which I really like. Not Emmett. Probably not Gene.

Shesaysso · 26/01/2018 14:38

Clara and Alexander

SpottyBrolly · 26/01/2018 14:41

Of your list I really like Eugene and would Rudy with full mane Rudolph, so not to helpful. Smile

sinceyouask · 26/01/2018 14:42

Clara and Alexander. Beautiful names.

(Lorcan makes me think of a none too nice Marian Keyes character!)

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 26/01/2018 14:43

I just called my new house Rosa!
Love it as a girls name.

pinkpanther84 · 26/01/2018 14:46

Clara or Pearl

Ithinkifoundit · 26/01/2018 14:49

Rosa the House Grin Love it Face

Ah yes sinceyouask Lorcan Larkin. He really was a tosser

More votes for RudolphGrin I might be coming round to it. Another vote for Eugene too.

helpmum I think Rose is a beautiful name too. I just really love Rosa. I used to work with a woman called Rosa and she was so sweet and lovely. I think the name reminds me of her.
