Dd1 is called Clara.
We have a top boys name picked out but we're unsure if we have a girl.
Do you prefer Meredith or Juliet, and why please?

Juliet is one of my favourite names. Personally I don't like Meredith. I imagine a Meredith as a frumpy middle aged nosey villager who once upon a time worked as something like a community nurse so knows everyone....

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/01/2018 17:32

Love Juliet.

Dislike Meredith.

AnyaMoondial · 16/01/2018 17:54

Meredith is my favourite. I like dith names (Judith and Edith). The sound is lovely.

Juliet is good too though Smile

missyB1 · 16/01/2018 17:58

ooh I love them both! Would probably end up going for Juliet but be prepared for it to get shortened to Jules or Julie.

AdaColeman · 16/01/2018 18:03

Juliet, beautiful classic name, pretty when she is a little girl and cool and sophisticated when she is a woman, and I like the Shakespeare connection too.

Meredith, too "funky" and "trendy" for me, and so will date quickly.

thepressureofaname · 16/01/2018 18:56

Oooh some strong feelings against Meredith!
Jules/Julie shortenings are the one missgiving that I have about Juliet.
I'm surprised Meredith is described as trendy - it's over place 600 on the ons list.

Juliet!

NapQueen · 16/01/2018 19:05

Juliet. It was on my list with Jools as a nn.

KeepCalm · 16/01/2018 19:12

Meredith

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/01/2018 19:16

I like Juliet Meredith, lovely !

17caterpillars1mouse · 16/01/2018 19:19

Meredith - it's a gorgeous name and not used enough

newtlover · 16/01/2018 19:19

Meredith
not sure what it means though

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/01/2018 19:20

Juliet or Julieta ??

NOT Meredith

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 16/01/2018 19:42

I like both, but slightly prefer Juliet. We probably would have gone for that if dc2 was a girl... which technically it still could be! I’d got for Letty or Etta as a shortening. Hate Jules / Julie.

Meredith is quite nice too and I like Merry or Red for short.

SuperBeagle · 16/01/2018 20:13

Juliet. It's beautiful, and inexplicably underused. Don't think she would necessarily get "Jules", especially in 2018 when that is considered a very outdated shortening.

Don't like Meredith.

daisypond · 16/01/2018 20:15

Juliet.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2018 20:17

Another vote for Juliet. I don't like Meredith.

BewareOfDragons · 16/01/2018 20:18

Juliet is a lovely name.

Meredith sounds older, boring and plain.

ObiJuanKenobi · 16/01/2018 20:19

I love Juliet, classic yet not common.

BlackberryandNettle · 16/01/2018 20:19

Both lovely. I prefer Juliet slightly, although Meredith has the nicer nickname options.

FrancisUnderwood · 16/01/2018 20:21

Meredith. I love Merry as a nn.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/01/2018 20:23

For the first time ever I'm going to say that I love them both!

Topseyt · 16/01/2018 20:23

Juliet for me. Not a big fan of Meredith, though I couldn't put my finger on exactly why.

FrancisUnderwood · 16/01/2018 20:24

...and the Julie nn would put me off Juliet.
Perfectly fine, just a bit 80's.

grasspigeons · 16/01/2018 20:24

They are both lovely names.

Juliet wins for me as the Meredith I know is a welsh farmer and it sounds quite different than the way English say Meredith for girls names.
