Initials spell S.O.D....

Hello

We’ve fallen in love with the name Sophie Olivia but our Surname begins with a ‘D’.... is it too bad for her initials to spell SOD? It’s not something I would have ever noticed, but my OH did straight away... I also sort of like Isabella, but it also sounds funny with our surname... at least we are certain on a first name! Middle name is proving tricky 😬

I wouldn’t. My DD has initials plastered all over her school uniform. And a lot of jobs require their use as a reference think (our ref: 2/18/3456/SOD). So people will notice. Put another name in?

GetOffTheTableMabel · 14/01/2018 11:38

DDs school has all students get their initials embroidered onto PE shirts, kit bags etc.

blueskypink · 14/01/2018 11:44

To be fair, you don't have to use your middle name - not everyone has one. So initials on clothes could be SD. But, as I said earlier, if there is another SD in a team, meeting etc, people might be asked to use middle names to differentiate.

BrutusMcDogface · 14/01/2018 11:48

I wouldn't.

Sophie Lydia is pretty!

I've never heard of schools getting children's initials embroidered on their stuff, though? Are they private schools?

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 14/01/2018 11:48

I wouldn’t.

You could either add a 2nd middle name or choose a different one.

Sophie Olivia Rose, Faye, Anne, Pearl, Claire, Dawn...? Sophie Olivia sounds nice with a one syllable name imo.

Sophie Livia might be an option as well...?

State grammar here - initials compulsory on rugby/gym tops and shorts, tracksuits etc

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/01/2018 12:21

It wouldn't worry me OP.

BikeRunSki · 14/01/2018 13:02

Initial embroidery is not compulsory at my dc’s school, but very commonly done. Has massively reduced the numbers of lost jumpers and cardigans!

BikeRunSki · 14/01/2018 13:03

State primary

RavenWings · 14/01/2018 13:05

Oh god no. Just add another middle name in if you don't want to change Olivia.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 14/01/2018 13:08

I’m not sure whether it’s compulsory or just the ‘done thing’ at my niece’s school.

DN and her friends seem to be obsessed with their initials and middle names, btw. There were several monogrammed items on her Christmas wish list Grin

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2018 13:24

I would avoid a middle name starting with T for your little Sophie.

buckleten · 14/01/2018 13:25

Could you add in Isabella as well, so she has four initials? Nothing bad about S.I.O.D or S.O.I.D, I think that would be a lovely name!

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 14/01/2018 13:37

I would perhaps put anothe name in there. My DU’s initials spelt FAT and he changed his first name almost as soon as he became an adult.

Grin at Mike. So Sophie Tess is out too then? Smile

paxillin · 14/01/2018 13:55

SOD (and ASS of recent MN fame) will change their name on their 18th birthday. Let's hope they don't suffer too badly until then.

Lucylululu · 14/01/2018 14:07

I think it's fine. Who even still says 'sod' anyway? Definitely no children/teens! And by the time she's an adult I doubt anyone will be juvenile enough to say anything if they notice, which is unlikely

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2018 14:08

Sophie Tess Davies is lovely. STD on all her school stuff. Sniggers in the workplace. Such fun.
I prefer Sophie Teresa though.

paxillin · 14/01/2018 14:11

Who even still says 'sod' anyway?

500 mentions of the word on MN in any two weeks on AS. Common enough I'd say.

SODDDD · 14/01/2018 14:27

As someone who actually does have the initials SOD, I'm pretty bemused by this thread.

It's really not that big a fucking deal, guys.

blueskypink · 14/01/2018 14:52

SODDD - for you maybe. And that's great. But why take the risk?

SandLand · 14/01/2018 15:06

And as someone who had the intials ASS, I plead with you not to do it since you have noticed

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 14/01/2018 17:16

Mike Theresa is ok but I think Tuppence would be better.

bastardkitty · 14/01/2018 17:20

Tuppence meant vagina where I grew up.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/01/2018 17:22

Don't do it. Who wants to be laughed at.

Add another name.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 14/01/2018 17:23

Here too Bastard Smile
