I'm 38 weeks and we're still to decide on a name from our list. We love all of them so just want honest opinions on what you think of (if anything) when you hear them! Any suggestions are welcome and bonus points for cute nicknames!
Cairn
Conall
Dougal nn. Dougie
Fraser
Lachlan nn. Lockie
Struan

I like Fraser and Dougal - haven't heard of a Dougal for ages. Donald?

1haudyerwheesht · 12/01/2018 20:29

Cairn is a Scottish dog breed. Toto from the wizard of oz was a Cairn Terrier.

I love Struan. What about Euan or Harris?

Strokethefurrywall · 12/01/2018 21:07

DS2 was almost a Lachlan, he became a Sullivan instead.

DH is Fraser. My vote is obviously Fraser or Lachlan - can't go wrong with either, although Lachlan is picking up in popularity I think.

Allthecake · 12/01/2018 22:24

How about Nairn instead of Cairn? Arran is lovely too.

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2018 22:26

Love Fraser from your list, also Angus. Am suggesting Fergus.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/01/2018 22:43

Love Fraser, Struan and Conall.
Cairn reminds me of my old dog, Cairn Terrier.

Gemz1806 · 12/01/2018 22:50

We have a Ruairidh! Was nervous for the same reasons as you, but FB is a wonderfully thing to help folk make sure they spell it right. I love it now! I did love Cairn more, it was my favourite but DH said no!! He is deffo a Ruairidh! Plus his pal is called Cairn so it was meant to be!GrinGrin

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 12/01/2018 22:55

Fraser. Lachlan and Dougal are also great. :)

I also like Magnus, Cormag, Alec and Arran.

scotsmumof1 · 12/01/2018 23:01

Have never considered Arran (not a fan of the Aaron spelling), but that really is lovely. Plus my late grandma used to knit beautiful Arran jumpers so would be nod to her too..

SuperBeagle · 13/01/2018 01:14

Lachlan (Lachy) is so bloody common (not "low class" common, just popular) in Australia and has been for decades. I know more than I can count.

Love Fraser. Love Douglas, but not Dougall, which sounds like the sort of name my beagle would suit.

Like Hamish also, but again, it's so popular here in Australia, you can't swing a cat without hitting one.

MurraysMummy · 13/01/2018 16:51

I like Lachlan the best from your list.. My son is called Murray obv Scottish.. I am pregnant with my 2nd and thinking of Finlay or Keir .. :)

I love Dougal! Dougie is a really cute nickname too

CormoranStrike · 14/01/2018 10:23

I love Struan, but outwith your list would add Magnus, Munro, Fergus and Finlay.

My favourite Scottish boy’s name used to be Donald; gone off it for some reason! Grin

TatianaLarina · 14/01/2018 10:33

Like Lachlan a lot. And Hamish.

Two of my fav Scottish boys names are Sholto and Ossian.

Nairn is a well known brand of oatcakes.

MunsteadWood · 14/01/2018 11:27

LOVE your list OP. I had a few of these on my list for DS, but only have very distant Scottish ancestry, and DH has none, so they didn't feel right in the end.

Of your suggestions my favourites are Lachlan (lovely name) and Struan (which will always remind me of a man I once met with that name who was fun, gentle, fiendishly intelligent and drop dead gorgeous!) - but all are brilliant names.

All the best for your new DC!

SprinkleOfInsanity · 14/01/2018 11:37

Love all the names on your list, some more really nice and not too popular are:

Muir
Blair
Forbes
Innes
Keir
Niall
Nicol
Ranald

Congratulations Thanks

MunsteadWood · 14/01/2018 13:04

Another Scottish name I love is Tormod.

Chocolateyescakeyes · 14/01/2018 13:41

I really like Torin

Linnet · 14/01/2018 13:58

What about Kyle
