My mothers name is Audrey and I quite like the name Aubrey as I think I could say I've named her after my mum but my sister doesn't agree it's anything a like! What other names would you associate with Audrey?

I think it is a nod to your mothers name. They are similar names. Im named after my two grandmothers. Part of each of their first names make up mine. Both their names are very different and mine is too. If that helps at all

georgiaokeeffe · 10/01/2018 22:28

I absolutely see the connection! Lovely names.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 22:32

See the connection and love Aubrey

Joinourclub · 10/01/2018 22:41

Well of course they are similar! Hard to get more so.

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2018 22:42

Aubrey is a boy's name and it's horrible.
Audra is a bit like Audrey and is a girl's name.

Aubrey is def a boys name in the U.K.

Bellamuerte · 10/01/2018 22:45

Audra?

TatianaLarina · 10/01/2018 22:46

What about Aurelie or Aurora - not the same but inspired by...

Cyrilla · 10/01/2018 22:51

The only names I could think of were Claudine and Maud but yours are much better suggestions, Tatiana 😂

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2018 22:58

I like Claudine. Aurelie sounds like Orally. Aurora is no good if you can't say R. Awe-owa anyone?
I associate Audrey with Gail, Sarah-lou and Bethany.

purplemunkey · 10/01/2018 23:01

Aubrey/Aubrie is a unisex name, I know two female Aubries and one male Aubrey.

I think it's a great name and would get the connection.

Winebottle · 10/01/2018 23:06

If you are only changing one letter, why not just stick with Audrey?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2018 23:07

I think you'd made a spelling mistake to be honest. You're either named after someone or you're not. I wouldn't half arse it. I'd either nAme her Audrey after your mum, use it as a mn or think ofor something else

Belshels · 10/01/2018 23:15

How about Aurelia, love love that name. Sort of similar?

AdaColeman · 10/01/2018 23:16

Aubrey is a male name, so I wouldn't see the connection with your Mother's name Audrey. Why not call your daughter Audrey?

DramaAlpaca · 10/01/2018 23:21

Aubrey isn't anything like Audrey, especially as it's a male name as others have said. I wouldn't see the connection, I'd just think you'd appropriated a not particularly nice male name for a girl.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2018 23:22

I'd think, ffs and I've got the cheek to go on about your spelling mistakes.

Hawkmoth · 10/01/2018 23:22

I knew an Aubrey and he was lovely.

RockinHippy · 10/01/2018 23:36

I know Aubrey as a boys name, I've known 2 in my life, both men I'm afraid.

Audrey is beautiful though, why not just go the whole hog & go for that

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 11/01/2018 09:18

I see the connection!

Is there any reason you don’t want to go with Audrey though?

TonicAndTonic · 11/01/2018 11:08

I'm another one who's only seen Aubrey used for boys I'm afraid. If you want to be able to say you've named your daughter after your mum, I'd just use Audrey tbh.

Motherofbabydragons · 11/01/2018 19:35

It is a boys name but it’s becoming increasingly popular with little girls. I personally don’t like it but think it’s similar to Audrey in the sense you’ve just got the B back to front

nooka · 11/01/2018 19:48

I'd think it strange if someone introduced me to their new baby girl, 'Aubrey' and said she was named after their mother. I'd be even more confused to hear that the mother was actually called Audrey. Aubrey is a boys name, old fashioned and associated with wealthy families in my mind. I get that there is a current trend to give girls boys names and I suppose I'd see the logic if you had a much loved male relative you wanted to honour but I really struggle to see the tribute here.

AuntieStella · 11/01/2018 19:54

The only Aubrey I've known in RL is male, though I've read several times on MN that girls have been given this boy's name.

If you want a name that sounds similar, then Aurora or Aurelia.

If you want a name with the same vibe, then: Gail, Deirdre, Ivy, Vera, Rita, Alma, Mavis
