I like the name. I don't get the social class argument for it, personally. And we are highly educated professionals in this house.

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 18:45

Boss

Ah... Thanks. I guess I personally see Mason as a very different kind of name (probably due to personal experiences).

(Btw, it's ranked 34... There must be boys named Mason from various backgrounds?)

Atticusss · 04/01/2018 18:50

I used to love it. When I was a teenager and I first heard it in a nursery I was doing work experience in. It's lovely sounding, but for the last few years I hear it all the time. Agree it's on par with Jayden, Jackson, Tyler etc. If trendy popularity like that doesn't bother you then go for it. But it will date.

vitaminC · 04/01/2018 18:53

It sounds very American to me and although it is currently trendy, I've never met one.
I fear it is the kind of name which will date badly in a few years time!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/01/2018 18:54

Mason Jar
Stone Mason
Mason & Pearson hairbrushes
Free Masons

It doesn't really have amazing connections for me sorry OP.

What about Morgan?

crackerjacket · 04/01/2018 18:54

Jar.

timeistight · 04/01/2018 18:59

Love it. I like surnames as first names (apart from the ubiquitous Harrison).

timeistight · 04/01/2018 18:59

And Morgan is really a girl's name Smile

Not good, sorry.

greathat · 04/01/2018 19:10

I have taught Masons. Memorable for all the wrong reasons. Like Jaydens and kyles

PinkBuffalo · 04/01/2018 19:18

Going against the grain...
I love the name, but probably because one of the nicest little boys I know is called Mason - he is a sweetie Smile

RJnomore1 · 04/01/2018 19:22

Masonic lodge here. West of Scotland it's a name for people of a particular persuasion.

ForalltheSaints · 04/01/2018 19:25

I knew someone whose child was called Mason. Divorce came a couple of years later, hopefully coincidental.

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 04/01/2018 19:28

Awful.

Paisley8880 · 04/01/2018 19:30

Thanks all!!

I also hate it but my sister loves it and keeps mentioning it and I wanted to show her peoples opinions!

Mason Boyne was the first name I thought of (Robbie Coltrane playing an Orange Order bigot) . Certainly wouldn't use the name Mason in the West of Scotland.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/01/2018 19:35

It's your sisters choice though, Paisley.
I don't think it's your place to put her off.
I don't like my nephews name, but it's none of my business.

Mightybanhammer · 04/01/2018 19:41

Really really bad.
Not sorry.

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2018 19:43

Don't like it as a first name.

Dolwar · 04/01/2018 19:44

I meet children every dsy in my line of work. Mason is a definite chav name. All the chavs round here all call their kids names from a very limited selection....maybe that's why it's so high up in the rankings

Sarahh2014 · 04/01/2018 19:45

Haha to some of these comments.its my son's name and it's perfect for us.each to their own 😁

squoosh · 04/01/2018 19:46

I think it will end up being a Gary/Darren type name. Very identifiable to a particular period. I don't hate it though and the small Mason I know is an adorable child.

SueGeneris · 04/01/2018 19:47

Don't like it! DS is Nathan. When he was born DH's work sent a card congratulating us on the birth of Mason. Thankfully no one else has got the names mixed up since then! It goes firmly in the pile of Kai, Jayden etc - rightly or wrongly it disadvantages your child because people will make assumptions.

GlitterBurps · 04/01/2018 19:47

It’s a naughty boys name. My 2 Dss went to school with two boys named Mason. One is in prison now and the other is just horrible.
