Another naming row!

Battle has officially commenced! My DH and I are at war over a name for our expected baby boy. We spent countless hours disagreeing over names for our DD and eventually pulled Stella Joy out of a hat (no really, literally pulled it out of a hat. We couldn't agree so each chose a few favourites and picked one each).
We've got a peedie bit of time yet, ETA is middle of Feb, but the MIL is putting on the pressure to get a name sorted.
I'm keen for something a little different without being cringy or downright strange.
I've been championing:
Caspian
Ezra
Corin

DH is hoping for a local classic; Kenneth, Donald, Alexander, Magnus. All perfectly nice names, but not quite what I had in mind. I really don't want to call my son Kenny or Sandy.
Peter is already in for a middle name after my late BIL. I'd like another middle name, too, but DH isn't fussed.
Any new suggestions gratefully considered!

Benedict?

WindyWindy · 15/12/2017 10:27

(I love Thorfinn!)

Colin is good,I only know one too.

glitterbiscuits · 15/12/2017 10:31

Thorfinn is only good until you meet someone who cannot pronounce ‘th’ you could end up with “Forfinn”

Evelynismyspyname · 15/12/2017 10:32

I actually thought Corin was a girls name - that doesn't have to matter, but I suppose its something I'd want to be aware of before picking it (although it could just be me). I swear I had a former female colleague called Corin, but perhaps I misremember...

I know a little boy called Caspar, which is less try hard than Caspian, but there is the danger of him being plagued by friendly ghost references....

Ezra says Ezra Pound to me and nothing else - I think its the best of the 3.

Evelynismyspyname · 15/12/2017 10:33

Thorfin is hilarious.

What about Korbinian?

CactusCactusCactus · 15/12/2017 10:52

Love your three!

Donald?! No.

WindyWindy · 15/12/2017 11:01

Donald captures the Zeitgeist surely!

ajb17 · 15/12/2017 11:12

I love Ezra as it's my sons name and he has 2 middle names. I also like Caspian, Caspar, Magnus, Winston, Caleb etc.

Cheerfullygo4 · 15/12/2017 11:17

Soren (Scandi name so will fit with Northern Isles)
Oisin

pipilangstrumpf · 15/12/2017 15:39

Corin is a boys name.

The feminine version is Corinne, very different!

RoryItsSnowing · 15/12/2017 15:55

Tell your MIL to do one, what business is it of hers whether you've decided a name yet?!

fizzicles · 15/12/2017 16:01

My DS has one of the names from your list OP, and my DD has the same middle name as yours. You obviously have excellent taste! Grin

islandblone · 15/12/2017 18:25

Evelyn, pipi: Corinne was in the hat for DD!
DH has a cousin called Duncan, so I'm avoiding that. Douglas is a possibility. Wee Dougie could be cute!
I LOVE Caleb and Asher. We know a couple of Calebs, but not closely so it wouldn't be a thing.
I do really like Thorfinn, but it's fairly common here. I suppose we could always move south!
I will feedback to DH with some new ideas. Hopefully we'll find something we both love! Thanks everyone!

I like your three names! Caspian is a bit 'out there' but I really love how it sounds. I like Alexander and Magnus from your husband's selection (Caspian Alexander would be wonderful...).

I am also half expecting a massive rise in the fantastic Thorfinn, as you've now introduced it to the MN masses!

Wishfulmakeupping · 15/12/2017 18:47

I like Douglas

Emmett
Emerson

islandblone · 15/12/2017 23:24

Sandsnake, I'd love that! A peedie gang of viking warriors.

Wee update, DH is still a hard no on Corin and Caspian, Gideon reminds him of Pigeon and he still thinks Donald is a perfectly fine name for a wee boy. However, he likes Alec as an alternative nn for Alexander which is a real compromise for him, bless him. Colin is now also in the running and I'm willing to make a concession and put Thorfinn back into consideration (DH pointed out that there might be 3 Thorfinns but there's also about 8 Jacks and half a dozen Katies).

How many middle names can I get away with? Is Thorfinn Peter Colin Alexander R... too much?

Magnus is a great name. I'd go with that IIWY. I also like Caspian (can imagine a boy nicknamed Cas).

Xander's faddy. It's having a real moment but it'll go out of fashion.

Magnus thorfinn sounds better!

LoveInTokyo · 16/12/2017 18:00

Surely not Donald? Do you want people to think he's named after Trump?

What about Oliver?

BaffledMummy · 16/12/2017 19:28

Dugald? It is a name!

CatInTheChristmasTree · 16/12/2017 20:48

Love Caspian. Caspar is lovely too.

Corin is a big no to me. Sounds like Koren (a girls' name).

Donald and Magnus are awful.

Alexander is nice. And Kenneth (nn Kenny) is quite quirky IMO.
