Hazel?

DD4 is due in the new year and DH has put Hazel forward as his top choice in name.

I do really like it, but also keep thinking of it as a name associated with my MIL’s generation. We’ve had mainly ‘so and so’s aunt/nan/sister is called Hazel’ when we mentioned it to family.

Our current DD’s names don’t follow a ‘theme’ however one does have a nature inspired name which Hazel fits very nicely with.

Thoughts?

Love Hazel and it's our middle name for a girl! I think of it as more of a nature name than an old-fashioned name (not a fan of Mabel etc.). Though I'm half-inclined to save it in case we have another girl because it's one of the very few names OH and I agree on!

I so love Hazel! :) Reminds me of my sweet bff in grade school.

Really don't like it, sorry! It doesn't at all go into the nature name category for me - it's there with Sheila, Pauline, Glynis. Dated but not in a good way, it's so drab! And no good short form.

I really like it. It reminds me of Violet and Ivy Smile

I love Hazel. It’s a beautiful name. I love nature names.

I love it. I know one Hazel - a free spirit in her 30s. It makes me think of rabbits (Watership down) and wild Hazel trees.

@FizzyGreenWater see that’s the category it keeps slipping into in my mind. Even though I do like the name, I just can’t make up my mind on it!

I love it - I've taught 2 Hazel's in the past few years (both aged under 10)

OublietteBravo · 08/12/2017 22:03

I love it. I'd have used it if DS had been a girl.

FizzyGreenWater · 09/12/2017 10:12

Don't do it then OP, this is pregnancy brain talking - I had all sorts of random names seem suddenly amazing for short bursts. Your DH is raving about it but your doubts mean it's not the name for you. You'd regret this one. Also, if one of your other DDs is Willow then really don't use it! - if it's Autumn, not so matchy.

daisypond · 09/12/2017 10:49

I know a few Hazels -they're in their 40s/50s, so it does seem a bit dated. It is like a Pauline/Glynis name to me, though if I think hard about the plant, I can make it seem nice, but I've got to concentrate to get that association. I don't associate it with eye colour at all. It has a big Watership Down link as well - which is no bad thing.

Just remembered there’s a lovely Bob Dylan song called Hazel too. Nice association for me.
