Hazel?

DD4 is due in the new year and DH has put Hazel forward as his top choice in name.

I do really like it, but also keep thinking of it as a name associated with my MIL’s generation. We’ve had mainly ‘so and so’s aunt/nan/sister is called Hazel’ when we mentioned it to family.

Our current DD’s names don’t follow a ‘theme’ however one does have a nature inspired name which Hazel fits very nicely with.

Thoughts?

It’s my middle name. I’m not keen but I think that’s because of the accent here. People say Azel.

PenelopePickle · 07/12/2017 16:23

I meant more that I associate it with my parents generation, than it being a typical ‘old fashioned’ name.

I really like hazel. My husband vetoed it because he knew a hazel thst left a sour taste in his mouth. She'd be in her thirties now so definitely not a grandma name.

Auvergne · 07/12/2017 16:26

Well, my middle name was after a woman my mother worked with who was very tall and willowy and beautiful, which I think inspired my naming! But she would be in her 60s now.

LarkDescending · 07/12/2017 16:33

I like it! I think it suits all ages, and has never been so absurdly popular that it belongs to any particular generation.

I know a Hazel in her 60s, one in her 40s and two school-age girls. It seems to have had a revival in the last few years, perhaps in part prompted by Julia Roberts choosing it for her DD.

It's a lovely name. A bit old fashioned maybe but nothing wrong with that - it's pretty not dowdy. Remember 20 years ago if you mentioned Grace it would'very been considered very old fashioned! !

eastlondoner · 07/12/2017 16:36

I'm not a fan

IHeartKingThistle · 07/12/2017 16:36

Oh I love it!

Auvergne · 07/12/2017 16:40

Is there a celebrity called Hazel Grace? That seems to ring a bell.

ButterfliesAreWeird · 07/12/2017 17:08

Hazel Grace is the character from fault in our stars and one those reality star quints. Mabel is becoming more popular largely in part due to gravity falls

villainousbroodmare · 07/12/2017 19:01

Love it. I know a 2yo and a 40yo. Both lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2017 21:22

I love it.

ByThePowerOfRa · 07/12/2017 23:09

I love it. I also would put it in the same group as other nature names like Willow, Autumn etc, rather than “great aunt hazel”.

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 07/12/2017 23:13

I know it's technically a nature name but to me a it's a 'my mum's friend' kind of name. A bit like Pauline or Sheila.

Smallpotatolove · 07/12/2017 23:13

I am one and I love it. I'm only sad I can't use it for my own child. It's a nice unusual name without being too frilly or girly I think. Oh and I have blue eyes!

Lightheartedindeed · 07/12/2017 23:17

I know a 19 year old Hazel and she is an absoloute sweetheart

Muddlinalong · 07/12/2017 23:21

I have a 3 year old Hazel, we love her name. People often comment on it.
I only know of 1 other child with the name, and I am a teacher, so in my experience it isn’t particularly common currently.
Top choice in my book 😊.

ladystarkers · 07/12/2017 23:22

Dislike it sorry

Thingiebob · 07/12/2017 23:23

Hazel is a late eighties name which deserves a come-back. I think it's lovely. Also Sally. Sally needs to come back. I'm so over all the Eva/Mabel/Ivys

rachelracket · 07/12/2017 23:27

lovely name. i know a 27 yo Hazel and she is very cool

MrsBonato · 07/12/2017 23:28

We know a Hazel, she's 4 and a sweet little girl. Also know one in her late 30's.

Love the name, I don't think of it as old fashioned at all. It's one that doesn't seem to age.

DuncanDonut · 07/12/2017 23:34

I love it! It's my mum's name.

PenelopePickle · 08/12/2017 08:05

@ByThePowerOfRa one of my other DD’s has a name you’ve mentioned, so I’m pleased to hear that!

It was my mum's name. Love it.

emsyj37 · 08/12/2017 09:05

I have a 4yo Hazel. With blue eyes!! Grin
I love it. It's my favourite of my DCs names and the most complimented one.
