Girls name help?

Hi all,

DH and I are expecting (Grin) and we have a boys name picked out, but we're struggling for girls. DH is quite easygoing but I'm quite picky. So far we like the following:

  • Verity
  • Eden
  • Sylvie
  • Xanthe
  • Margot (DH's fav)
  • Aurelie/Aurelia (my fav)

Which do you like best?? Any other suggestions to throw in the mix? Any middle name suggestions...?

Floral names are ruled out as our surname is Rose.

Just realised surname is rose. Oops! Rosanna rose is a no go there haha

happylantern · 04/12/2017 18:26

@JollyGiraffe I'd say au-ray-lie in an English accent, I believe in French the middle is more of an "eh" sort of sound.

I'm pronouncing it kind of like this but less French sounding!

@DueNov aww Rosanna is lovely! I like Rosa too but obviously not with my surname Grin

Thank You!! Darn it. I would love rose as a surname. I think verity is the nicest out if your list 😊

JollyGiraffe · 04/12/2017 18:31

Ah yes that's what I was going for with Oh-rah-li Grin

In terms of middle names- do you have any names in your family history that you like? I think lots would go well with Verity Rose, so maybe it would be nice to pick something with a family connection.

BrokenBattleDroid · 04/12/2017 18:35

I do love Aurelie but have put off since seeing it compared on here to orally. Can imagine some unpleasant teenage jibes coming from that, but maybe I'm overthinking it.

I love Verity the most, nickname V.

Steve. Oh dear. I do weirdly like Stevie for a girl though Blush.

What about Anouk or Anais (with the double dot thing that changes the sound though, can't find it on my phone!)

SparkleMotion82 · 04/12/2017 18:36

You should totally go with it if you love the name :) Aurelie is beautiful - I tend to overthink things and we live in France so it’s pronounced a bit differently here I guess, I have an Elodie and stressed myself out over the French v UK pronunciation so it may be just me 😀😘

happylantern · 04/12/2017 19:02

@BrokenBattleDroid @SparkleMotion82 ooo I like Anais and Elodie!

I appear to be whittling the list down and adding to it again Blush

I think I'm a bit attached to Aurelie as it's the only name I've consistently loved since I was a teenager, I've loved other names in phases and then grown out of them. I can remember naming my sim's baby Aurelie as a teen Grin

I feel more worried about the reaction to Aurelie than I do about the reaction to Verity, which may be clouding my judgement a bit. I do love Verity too though.

If this little one is a boy all of this umming and ahhing will have been for nothing!

People seem to LOVE Elodie...I’ve had pretty good reactions to it so maybe a good option for you if you’d like something French! We’re currently choosing for her little sister...I’m almost 39 weeks! I find boys names much easier than girls for some reason. Good luck! Xx

SparkleMotion82 · 04/12/2017 19:08

We also had Eden on our shortlist for our first baby :)

celticmissey · 04/12/2017 19:13

Liberty is nice but only like Eden from your list though

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/12/2017 19:32

Eden Rose
Eden Pearl
Eden Grace
Eden Mary
Eden Aurora
Eden Arabella
Eden Nicole
Eden Lucy
Eden Sofia
Eden Rosabelle
Eden Christina
Eden Olivia

PhuntSox · 04/12/2017 19:46

I like Verity Aurelia, lovely and strong.

happylantern · 04/12/2017 19:56

@Awwlookatmybabyspider think you might've missed our surname Grin glad you think Eden Rose is a nice combo though!

OP posts:
happylantern · 04/12/2017 19:56

@PhuntSox hmmm I do quite like that, but is Verity Aurelia Rose a bit of a mouthful?

OP posts:
thegrinchreaper · 04/12/2017 19:58

Sylvie Rose is so, so lovely.
I like Aurelie written down but I think most English people would pronounce it either 'orally', or 'oh really'.

happylantern · 04/12/2017 20:14

@thegrinchreaper I can totally imagine a little 4 y/o Sylvie Rose but I question whether I can see a 30 year old surgeon/lawyer/scientist Sylvie Rose? 🤔

OP posts:
PhuntSox · 04/12/2017 20:25

Its lovely!

thegrinchreaper · 04/12/2017 20:46

I come across all sorts of names in the above professions. I don't see why Sylvie Rose would be at any disadvantage, it's a nice normal name in any case.

LarkDescending · 04/12/2017 20:51

Dr Sylvie Rose
Sylvie Rose QC
Her Honour Judge Sylvie Rose

Why not? I think it's gorgeous (and I'm a lawyer...).

Smoliver · 04/12/2017 21:13

I love your list. Some of my favourites are on it!

Love Verity, Sylvie, Xanthe, Margot and Aurelia.

Middle name suggestions, how about:
Rae
Dawn
Jade
Scarlett
Joy
Hope
Clover
Briar
Jane
Pearl
Ember
Sapphire
Fern
Ivy

AccrualIntentions · 04/12/2017 21:20

I like Sylvie. Felicity is in the same vein as Verity but a bit softer.

happylantern · 04/12/2017 21:30

@AccrualIntentions I'm just not keen on Felicity for some reason. I don't know why, given it is fairly similar to Verity.

@Smoliver love Briar and Pearl!

OP posts:
Poppyfields21 · 04/12/2017 21:59

I love Verity. Have you considered Venetia?

happylantern · 04/12/2017 22:11

@Poppyfields21 Venetia sounds a bit old lady to me but I love Valentina! Again, don't think I can get away with it with our surname Sad Valentina Rose sounds like a perfume.
