What do you guys think about Nella or Nela. I really like this name however I would like to know what others think.

Don't like it, sorry. Its too harsh sounding

wobblywonderwoman · 18/11/2017 00:17

I don't really like it.

firawla · 18/11/2017 00:18

I like it. There’s an American blogger with a dd called this, I always think of her as I haven’t met anyone with the name elsewhere, but it’s really pretty

EllenJanethickerknickers · 18/11/2017 00:28

The Nela I know is Bulgarian and it just sounds like a normal name to me now. Better than Nelly!

Cavender · 18/11/2017 00:35

Nella as in short for Sunella?

Fine but she’s like to be called Nell or Nelly by her mates so only go there if you like those names too.

Battleax · 18/11/2017 00:41

Like Nella Last! Lovely.

Freyanna · 18/11/2017 03:20

I like Nela but not Nella, I would prefer Ella.

gigi556 · 18/11/2017 03:22

Don’t like it. What does it mean?

CrystalMcPistol · 18/11/2017 03:28

Nice enough name. Only know it as a Character in a book called The Miniaturist which I think has been adapted by the BBC. Flimsy book with irritating mystical sub plot that goes nowhere.

MyheadisAjunglee · 18/11/2017 03:35

Reminds me of Nutella. Like nelly though

catiinbo0ts · 18/11/2017 03:35

Is it pronounced Nell-Ah or Neel—Ah?

Syll · 18/11/2017 07:37

I found two meanings:
Gaelic meaning:
The name Nela is a Gaelic baby name
The Gaelic meaning of Nela is:
Champion.

Also I found note about Latin origin and it means horn. It's a version of Cornelia.

First thought: salmonella.

EekThreek · 18/11/2017 07:48

The princess knight!

DS's favourite program currently.

It's a pretty name but as I've only ever heard of the one on the cartoon, I'm afraid I'd associate it with that...

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2017 07:51

Helen is traditionally shortened to Nell and is a very unusual name these days. No reason why she can't be Helen and you call her Nella. Gives her choices.

deptfordgirl · 18/11/2017 08:29

I love Nell and quite like Ella but don't like the sound of Nella for some reason.

DontTouchTheCharredCrotch · 18/11/2017 08:31

First thought,
Salmonella
2nd thought
Nelly the elephant.
Sorry Blush

DontTouchTheCharredCrotch · 18/11/2017 08:31

Ella is nice though.

biffyboom · 18/11/2017 08:31

Nella, short for nutella right?

Cauliflowercheede · 18/11/2017 08:34

I know a Nella short for Eleanor and a Nela (pronounced Nee-lah) who is German. I think it’s short for Cornelia.

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 18/11/2017 11:41

I don't like it- it sounds like a nickname.

PinkSnail · 18/11/2017 11:43

I know a Nella whose full name is Fenella.
Not a fan but it isn't awful.

Similar names

Neila (pronounced Nigh-la)
Nellie (but a bit Nellie the Elephant)
Ella
Milla
Eleanor

daisypond · 18/11/2017 12:00

I would assume it was short for a name like Petronella, Fenella or Eleanor.

userabcname · 18/11/2017 12:01

How would you pronounce it OP? I like it!

HoratioNightboy · 18/11/2017 12:55

Nela isn't real Gaelic, OP. It's a re-spelling of Neila, one of several feminine forms of Neil, which does indeed mean "champion" and derives from the Gaelic/Irish name Niall.

I think a lot depends on how you plan to pronounce it.
