Finn or Louis?

Baby boy is due in a week and a bit and we can’t decide between these two names.
Surname will be a long-ish double barrel (neither of us will back down on the surname) so I like that they’re both short names.
I feel like Finn is more cool, but quite popular whereas Louis is more classic. I’m genuinely afraid that we might have to flip a coin after he’s born!

My 3ds have 3 Fins each in their classes. The school is absolutely bursting with them - this is Scotland (not sure if that makes a difference). Between Finleys, Finnians, Finlays and Fins it is a bit of a joke.

Louis is nicer than Finn, to me. Louis (loo-ee) is more classic, while Finn is wannabe cool, which I find offputting.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/11/2017 10:25

What on earth is cool about a Finn? I don’t find it any cooler than a Dane or a Swede!

thegreylady · 20/11/2017 13:27

pipi what is wrong with people from Finland?
Finn is a very old Irish name nothing like Wayne which has its provenance in 20th century Hollywood I think. If you don’t like the name that’s fine. There are many Finlays etc but surprisingly few Finns.
Louis of course is French.
No matter ,the baby will be loved whatever his name.

Finn.. nice short 1 syllable, will go with double barrell

mummytwoh · 21/11/2017 13:36

I really like Louis - probably my favourite boys name for our December due baby.
It does bug me when people think it says Lewis which is a different name but hey

Erica891 · 21/11/2017 14:58

I like both actually. Can't say which one. Why don't you just put them together.

Zoesweet · 21/11/2017 15:20

I like Finn but it should go with a name like Elise. :)

My grandmother was called Louis, not Louise. She was born in 1886. Never heard of another girl with that name since!

MammieBear · 21/11/2017 16:30

Finn or Flynn

WanderingTrolley1 · 21/11/2017 16:31

Louis.

Worldsworstcook · 21/11/2017 16:34

Ha!!! I have both a finlay and Louis so I'm biased!

AlmostChristmas · 21/11/2017 20:44

I prefer Louis (either pronunciation)

Loo-is 3 spellings - Lewis, Luis and Louis (French spelling but not all use French pronunciation)

Loo- ee- 2 spellings Louis and Louie.

Finn

DiegoMadonna · 21/11/2017 23:46

I don't like Louis, so it's Finn for me.
