Beckett for a girl

Am interested in people's views.

For context, we have a dd with quite an unusual, gender neutral name. I'm not necessarily trying to go for that again, we just happen to like this name. We live abroad where it's not too unheard of to have different names. But I know family and friends will not love it....

Does anyone like it or is it too weird/ masculine?

I'm sorry, I'm not charmed, to be honest. However, if it isn't unheard of, where you live, and you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, and surely, they'll love her regardless.
Do you have any other names in mind ?
Scarlett
Piper
Wren
Harper

Pemba · 04/11/2017 15:56

Why would you? It's a surname.

Sultanainasalad · 04/11/2017 15:59

Thanks for your feedback. I'm not against using a surname you like as a name. I know it doesn't matter at all what people think, but as I feel it's so unusual (especially for a girl) I just wondered what people thought of it, as I won't tell people I know until she's born.

DH and I find it very very hard to agree on names. We also like
Robin
Marina
Hazel

I love it! I don't like Becky though (just thinking people will shorten it) although you could use Ettie as a NN.

toffee1000 · 04/11/2017 16:00

Robin is nice and gender neutral. Marina and Hazel also nice but bit more girly.

Brandnewstart · 04/11/2017 16:01

What about Stevie? I love that for a girl Smile

sausagepastapot · 04/11/2017 16:02

I really like it.

statetrooperstacey · 04/11/2017 16:02

She will end up Becky or becka though definitely.
Robin is nice. It's both pretty and masculine.

Sultanainasalad · 04/11/2017 16:02

Thanks Brandnew I had thought about Becky/Becca I don't love or hate either so it doesn't really bother me. Ettie is super cute, I never thought of that.

Robin is second choice. Dd1's name is a bit bird related so I can't decide if two would be cute or ridiculous.

I love it!
I like Ryan and Harper for girls as well.

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2017 19:26

Stevie is pretty for a girl. short for Stephanie, if you want a more formal name.

AnyaMoondial · 04/11/2017 19:39

Hazel is brilliant.

dustarr73 · 04/11/2017 19:53

I rather like I.

JKR123 · 04/11/2017 20:01

I don't like it at all sorry

AnaWinter · 04/11/2017 20:03

Not for me at all sorry it is a surname.

Backhometothenorth · 04/11/2017 20:11

Bucket

PunkrockerGirl59 · 04/11/2017 20:13

Awful. If you're happy to saddle the poor kid with a name she'll spend a lifetime having to explain/spell then go for it. I doubt she'll thank you for it though.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/11/2017 20:13

I like it. I also like Kenzie as a first name.

TheOctagonHouse · 04/11/2017 20:13

Sounds American - don’t like it sorry

RavenWings · 04/11/2017 20:17

Like Samuel Beckett? I like him, but it's a no from me.

On the other names,
Robin - awful wet and meek imo
Marina - lovely name
Hazel - also lovely

DiegoMadonna · 05/11/2017 00:39

I just wondered what people thought of it, as I won't tell people I know until she's born

In answer to this, I would inwardly think that it is not a nice name, and I'd probably say something about it to my OH, but never to you, and it would not affect my life, your life, or hers.

In fact, the above has already happened with more than one friend of mine (and their choices weren't as "out there" as Beckett). I guess that's just because not everybody likes the same names! Maybe some of them thought it about our name choices when we announced our children! That's fine by me. We all still love each other, even if we don't love each other's names.

Sultanainasalad · 05/11/2017 00:57

Thanks everyone for replying. I actually didn't expect anyone at all to like it so am surprised a few people do.

Diego I completely get what you're saying. Once a baby is born, no one would ever say they don't like the name, (in my experience anyway) but as I haven't really heard this name for a girl at all I just wanted some feedback. For my dd1 I knew people would think it was an unusual name but we both really loved it so I didn't care at all. This time DH loves Beckett and never cares what people think anyway. I do really like it but wouldn't say I love it...

Most people seem to like Marina though!

Out of Marina or Beckett I prefer the batter. Its nicer.

Brandnewstart · 05/11/2017 01:20

It is much nicer than Marina IMO!!
