Girls name suggestions please! DP and I can't agree

Our baby is due in January. We've got a boys name that we both love but can't settle on a girls name.

Lily is currently the front runner but no idea on the middle name.

DP loves Lily and I like it too but worried its a little too popular. The name I really love is Anna but its already in the family so we can't use it. Other names I quite like are Alice, Cara, Holly. DP would quite like a flower name (Daisy and Poppy are also in the close family so can't use those either!).

Any suggestions?! I feel like we haven't found 'the name' yet

What about Iris for a flower name? Less used than Lily or Rose

ploddingalong2 · 10/10/2017 00:02

Thanks Bobbiepin. I'd suggested Iris but DP thinks its too close to Isis Grin

Juniper.
Flora.
Bryony.
Rowen
Soren

I quite like cara/Kara or Cora. They mean sweet heart right?

PressPaws · 10/10/2017 05:15

Liliana? It's a proper name, so not just a combination of the ones you like. And not as popular as Lily.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 10/10/2017 05:25

Lilian. Not sure why it's not more popular - it's pure granny chic.

Another vote for Rowan. My favourite unisex name.

Jasmine? Or how about Marguerite?

BikeRunSki · 10/10/2017 05:29

Unusual flower names

Hebe
Jacinth
Azalea

nooka · 10/10/2017 05:30

I was going to suggest Liliana too. Liliana Rose / Fern / Ivy ?

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 10/10/2017 07:29

Calla
Violet
Dahlia
Tansy
Laurel
Heather

All flower names that I'd consider underused

ChocolateCrunch · 10/10/2017 07:39

Ivy or Holly, as you are having a winter baby?

I know loads of Lilys, but you could go for Liliana as pps have suggested.

Alice and Cara from your list are lovely. I only know one of each. I like Jasmine and Flora too, if you go for a flower name.

Chaffinch4 · 10/10/2017 08:22

Fleur? Primrose? Or just Rose? Posy?

ploddingalong2 · 10/10/2017 08:49

Thanks everyone! I think we'll have to drop the flower names as I really don't like any other than Lily. We'd like to keep it a short simple name as she'll have a very long and hard to pronounce surname.

I have a well known but unusual (for my generation) name and I hated it so I don't want to stray too far from the top 100 names. I wish there was something as classic and simple as Anna that I could think of!!

BewareOfTheToddler · 10/10/2017 08:55

Lilia would be a more unusual variant of Lily...

ladybirdsaredotty · 10/10/2017 08:56

I think Lily is beautiful. The only ones at my DD's school are older than her (she's Y1). Every time I hear it is think how lovely it is. If it's your (combined) favourite I wouldn't let popularity put me off, especially if you can't find other options.

Also, are you SURE Anna is unusable for you? I guess so as you've mentioned it but I think it depends on how often you see family members, etc.

Good luck choosing!

BewareOfTheToddler · 10/10/2017 08:57

But if you love Lily, don't let popularity deter you - it's a pretty name and instantly recognisable, which is no bad thing! I only know one (5).

tocas · 10/10/2017 08:59

Ruby?

igotyoubabe · 10/10/2017 10:00

Emma? Classic, not overused!

IfeellikeaJoan · 10/10/2017 10:05

Hazel is my favourite name. How about Helen or Sarah for simple and classic?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/10/2017 10:06

Lily is a lovely name, it matters not a jot, that it's popular, if you like it.
Jasmine is very pretty, as is Rose.
Could you use Anna as a middle name ? Lily Anna.

ploddingalong2 · 10/10/2017 10:33

Hazel is lovely! Not keen on Emma for some reason. I do like Lily Anna but think it sounds too much like a whole name- Lilliana

OP posts:
Smoliver · 10/10/2017 10:59

I like Lily. Maybe you could use an alternative version of Lily like Lilia or Liliana.

I also love classic names, maybe you could use one as the middle name. I think Lily Alice would be a lovely name. Or maybe you could suggest Lily as a middle name instead of a first?

Some other classic names you could use for first/middle name:
Clara
Lucy
Ivy
Hannah
Emma
Ella
Molly
Ruby
Grace

Jooni · 10/10/2017 11:05

How about Alba? Alma? Ailsa? Iona?

ploddingalong2 · 10/10/2017 11:25

Smoliver thanks. I do really like most of those names although quite a few are taken up by people we know.
