Girls name suggestions please! DP and I can't agree

Our baby is due in January. We've got a boys name that we both love but can't settle on a girls name.

Lily is currently the front runner but no idea on the middle name.

DP loves Lily and I like it too but worried its a little too popular. The name I really love is Anna but its already in the family so we can't use it. Other names I quite like are Alice, Cara, Holly. DP would quite like a flower name (Daisy and Poppy are also in the close family so can't use those either!).

Any suggestions?! I feel like we haven't found 'the name' yet

What about Lila? (Pronounced Lie-la)

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 10/10/2017 12:54

I feel your dilemma! My DD was going to be Lily right up until the month before she born...when DH's aunt bought a dachshund and called it Lily.

We went with Lucy in the end. But Ruby, Rosie and Sophie were on the shortlist.

ploddingalong2 · 10/10/2017 12:58

Lucy, Rosie and Sophie are out because of people we know with these names. I do like them all though! and Ruby is nice. Also, DP's DD is called Isla - sounds far too similar to Lila!

Laura?

tarheelbaby · 10/10/2017 13:16

What about Lily Susanna? This classic name is low on the baby name lists for frequency but is well known and includes 'anna' which you mention liking. It is easy to spell and pronounce.

Additionally, this ancient Hebrew word meaning flower with 6 petals is usually translated as lily or rose and is though to have come from the Egyptian word for lotus so fits nicely with your flower theme.

I love Holly - doesn't ever date and it's not massively popular
I do like Lilly but think there are too many 'Lilly-may' etc type names about

Twofishfingers · 10/10/2017 13:24

Laura, or Laurianna.

Laurianna is an unusual name, I have an aunt called Laurianna I have always loved her name.

Annalise, Annabel
Lucia
Jenna

Anna is perfect, can you really not use it?

I do find Lily a bit dull.

Annie?
Aster?
Lara?

ploddingalong2 · 11/10/2017 14:13

Fizzy. No I really can't use Anna. Not sure what you mean by dull? Do you mean overused? I'm not looking for anything particularly 'out there' as I have an unusual name and hated it when I was trying to blend in at school.

Starting to really like Holly. What are the general opinions on that name?

Mackenzie?

Protectingmydaughterfromfilth · 11/10/2017 14:22

(My Daughter's name. Mackenzie Amelia Grace Smile)

Just quite boring - sorry! That's totally subjective - someone else will think it the prettiest name in the world.

If I try and really break it down then yes most of that comes down to overuse I suppose. Also I think because it's short, and so it's also one of the slightly 'default middle names' as well as a name that often gets used for a hyphen name - Lily-May, Lily-Grace.

I would put it in the same bag as Lisa for say the 70s-80s generation. Nice, nothing wrong with it, nice sound - but totally bland.

Holly is nice!

Zoe?
Tara?

NoSquirrels · 11/10/2017 19:36

Calla.

Calla Lily. Very similar in sound to Anna.

But I also love Holly and Hazel. Also Roman (which to me is unisex although plenty will say boy).

NoSquirrels · 11/10/2017 19:37

Random caps - I didn't mean use both Calla & Lily together- just that the calla lily would be the inspiration.

NoSquirrels · 11/10/2017 19:38

Oh FFS!

Also Roman (which to me is unisex although plenty will say boy).

Rowan

(Which my phone clearly doesn't believe is a name at all!)

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 11/10/2017 19:50

I love Anna shame you can't use it.

I much prefer short names and one my list are:

Mia
Runa
Jenna
Beth
Jude

AnyaMoondial · 11/10/2017 19:51

How about Rosa? It is flower related and has the lovely swishy 'a' ending that Anna has. I also love Alice and Cara from your list.

bridgetreilly · 11/10/2017 22:07

Classic simple names:

Claire
