I don't like it as it is too surnamey- American for me. But I think Cassie is lovely. Unfortunately for me I can only say 'Cassandra' in a Rodney Trotter voice.

helly29 · 03/10/2017 20:27

I know a little Cassidy and it really suits her! Would definitely think girl

user1490100454 · 03/10/2017 20:32

Thanks everyone, still mega undecided on the name. I'll add it to the list as a wild card!

We're having a boy and the majority of you thought it as a girl name Confused

I think I'm maybe more confused than before I posted!

I've got a Cassie and it's a great name. Hers is short for Catherine. Don't love Cassidy tbh, the older names - Catherine (obv😉), cassia, etc work better for me.

strawberrypenguin · 03/10/2017 21:38

Oh sorry OP yes the DS9 character was female, I’d definitely think girl. How about Cassius?

Joinourclub · 03/10/2017 21:41

I like Cass or Cash for a boy

Cassius
Caspar

Astonished at the love for it - I'm in the 'awful culturally-appropriating surname name' camp. And I'd have thought boy!

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 03/10/2017 21:44

I dont like sur name names but i have to make an exception for Bellamy, Delaney and cassidy too

MarthaArthur · 03/10/2017 21:45

I used to fancy a boy at school called Cassidy Grin good memories.

MarthaArthur · 03/10/2017 21:47

Oh so I really love the name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/10/2017 22:08

I love it too ! 😄

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2017 22:18

I know a boy Cassidy. It suits him but it is up there with McKenzie, Riley, Tyler,Taylor...

DownstairsMixUp · 03/10/2017 22:19

I only know a girl Cassidy to, think she’s 9. Wouldn’t call my own child Cassidy but it’s not offensive.

Why is it culturally appropriating???

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 03/10/2017 22:56

Culturally appropriating ?? LIke, white people from the British Isles using another White person from the British Isle's name?

OMG.

But then, I bought dream catchers for the children's windows.

squoosh · 03/10/2017 23:09

Lolz at the 'cultural appropriation'. Huong or Nguye might be a little odd, but Cassidy? What about all the Charlottes and Sophies and their appropriated names? I'd feel sorry for little English girls if they're stuck with names like Bathilda and Wilfreda

ABitOTT · 03/10/2017 23:46

I know a Cassidy & shes a girl.

ABitOTT · 03/10/2017 23:46

Mrsknackered · 04/10/2017 00:42

I'd think boy. I knew a lovely young man called Cassidy, so only good connotations for me.

Mrsknackered · 04/10/2017 00:42

He was Cass mostly though

notangelinajolie · 04/10/2017 00:45

It is a surname.

Butch Cassidy springs to mind.

Mclaren37 · 04/10/2017 03:16

Ooh I like it!

bridgetreilly · 04/10/2017 11:47

I'd have said boys name. But mostly it's a surname.

harrietm87 · 04/10/2017 13:03

squoosh it is an Irish surname, so more similar to calling a child Patel or Huong or whatever than Charlotte, which has been an established first name in this country for hundreds of years. For me it's the combination of surname + name from another culture that seems wrong. It happens a lot in America but usually because the child is of Irish descent - it started because people often named children their mother's maiden name (like Rooney Mara for example). But that's not the case here. Obviously times are changing and it's a real trend now, but I wouldn't do it personally.
