Rowan or Kit?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 26/09/2017 15:37

For a boy.

We are down to these two (more or less).

Kit would be Christopher on the bc, but we would introduce him to everyone as Kit until he is old enough to say whether he wants to use a different shortening / full name / completely unrelated nickname.

Other options are Samuel and Lewis. Middle name could be any of these names, or else Wilfred (family name).

Yes, I mean Rohan, though I think (English) DH may prefer the Rowan spelling. I don't really have a preference.

Rohan is nice, I like the LOTR though.

BertrandRussell · 26/09/2017 18:27

My lovely great nephews are Rowan ( but with an h) and Kit!

averythinline · 26/09/2017 18:30

Christopher nn kit Wilfred or Christopher Samuel...really like both but love Kit and Wilf

Lots of Samuel here so not so keen as first name

Ulysses · 26/09/2017 18:31

Kit’s very now isn’t it, e.g. Kit Harington. I think it sounded lovely a few years ago and it’s really grown in popularity. I love Rowan and know of a boy and girl version.

Pooshweens · 26/09/2017 18:32

Kit

Rowan is a bit wet

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 26/09/2017 18:37

Yes, I agree re Kit Harington and I also have think Wayne Rooney has a Kit now. I suppose having Christopher on the bc does give him the option to change it if Kit dates.

Every other new baby round these parts seems to be called Kit.

lollipop7 · 26/09/2017 18:39

My eldest son is called Kit.
So I'm biased.

I do wish the fucking Rooneys hadn't picked it though!

lollipop7 · 26/09/2017 18:40

@BuzzKillington really? Where do you live?

My son is almost four and we've yet to meet another one in real life.

SunSeaAndSangria · 26/09/2017 18:40

I really like Kit.

BellMcEnd · 26/09/2017 18:40

Rowan - although I do like Kit as well. Rowan was on my list. Love it

Dustbunny1900 · 26/09/2017 18:40

What does "wet" mean in th cont still of names??

Dustbunny1900 · 26/09/2017 18:40

Grr context

BellMcEnd · 26/09/2017 18:41

And I know a 7 year old Kit

MaisieDotes · 26/09/2017 18:43

There's always a mother of a girl Rowan insisting it's a girl's name only.

It's far, far more commonly used for boys than girls in the U.K., by miles, for years and years.

It's exclusively a boy's name in Ireland.

MaisieDotes · 26/09/2017 18:45

Oh sorry, OP, I vote for Rowan too Smile

MaisieDotes · 26/09/2017 18:47

You can also have Roan?

BuzzKillington · 26/09/2017 18:52

lollipop7 in the Home Counties. With all the Kits Grin

Tilapia · 26/09/2017 18:53

I vote for Rowan

Jooni · 26/09/2017 18:56

I have a Kit too. He's only 3 months and we've already met another! It is rising quickly in popularity which I'm not thrilled about, but it's still a lovely name even if it ends up top 10.

Rowan is great too. If he's likely to be small and blond I think Rowan might fit slightly better (I always think Kit is a tall, dark name because of Kit Harington!) but both are lovely.

@lollipop7 have you had the little one now then? Congrats! Flowers

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/09/2017 19:09

Rowan.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 26/09/2017 19:20

We're in Home Counties too buzz. All Noahs, Alexanders and Olivers so far, but that's just the toddlers! Imagine I'll meet babies with totally different names when we have the next one.

I'm much keener on Rowan. Need to work on DH who is just ok with it.

I like both but prefer Rowan

Lemondrop99 · 26/09/2017 22:12

I really like Kit, but between the Rooneys and Kit Harrington, it's suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is a bit 'in' at the moment

Love Rowan, and really love Rohan. Rowan Christopher flows beautifully
