She’d be Mellie a lot too... is Mellow too hippy?! Second name begins with M so love the flow...

OP posts:

29 isn't young. And your child won't thank you for a pain in the arse name that they'll have to spell out and correct people's pronunciation on a daily basis.

SuperBeagle · 26/09/2017 08:02

If it's yellow, let it mellow...

Basically, it will remind people of pee.

SuperBeagle · 26/09/2017 08:05

I’m a school teacher and see that children are a whole lot kinder and more accepting than adults when it comes to diversity so worry less about the nicknames or ‘teasing’.

Last I checked, it wasn't kids who'd be deciding whether or not to call your child in for an interview or throw their resume in the bin.

Singap0reSling · 26/09/2017 08:12

have a little cry is exactly what a child named Mellow would do.

The song, the wee connotations.... Just no.

EmmaJR1 · 26/09/2017 08:15

@DiscoDiva70 😂😂😂😂😂😂

gunsandbanjos · 26/09/2017 08:17

The First Lady in scandal is Mellie, any idea if it’s a NN or her actual name?

Just curious, please don’t call your child Mellow.

SuburbanRhonda · 26/09/2017 08:17

I’m reminded of a vulgar phrase “anything’s a dildo if you’re brave enough”

Grin
WaitrosePigeon · 26/09/2017 08:19

Smellie Mellie
Mellow Yellow.

Mellow isn't exactly a positive word, is it.

Mrsknackered · 26/09/2017 08:21

@gunsandbanjos Mellie on scandal is Melody (her sister is Harmony)

I like Mellie, think that is just because I absolutely love the scandal character

cushioncovers · 26/09/2017 08:22

Mellie belly. Sorry nope

Orangebird69 · 26/09/2017 08:22

guns her full name is Melody. Her name in rl is BELLAMY ShockGrin.

daisypond · 26/09/2017 08:26

I think Mellow would be unfortunate - see all the above posts. One of the meanings of mellow is "slightly drunk", which is also not great. Also seems to remind me of melon, which wouldn't be ideal for a girl either. How about Serena/Serenity/Constance/Dulcie, which have similar meanings? Or names like Merle/Merrill/Muriel which are uncommon these days?

SerendipityFelix · 26/09/2017 08:31

Grin this has made me chuckle a little this morning, thanks OP.

Mellow is a daft name for a human. Makes me think of urine, and just sets the bearer up for ridicule whenever they are not perfectly calm. Probably a decent name for a big squishy ginger cat though.

Melody is beautiful
I know a lovely Morwenna
Misty
Araminta
Miriam/Mariam
Myrcella.... ducks Grin

OhHolyFuck · 26/09/2017 08:46

Probably not so apt when she's 2 and having the mother of all meltdowns in the supermarket
that might have just been my kids

Reppin · 26/09/2017 08:55

I actually think OP should name her child Mellow, it is an aspirational name and as the OP is so... ummm.. highly strung it might not be such a bad idea!

CFranS · 26/09/2017 08:56

I knew a Melisande who was Meli for short?

FannyTheFlamingo · 26/09/2017 09:02

OP - please either go with the name you love or if you have to ask advice, ask people in RL. I joined MN when I was pregnant to ask about baby names. I ended up spending the rest of the day crying and ditched the name I loved.

demirose87 · 26/09/2017 09:03

It's just a random word, not a name. Sorry.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/09/2017 09:16

OP, go with Molly, it's a great name !
By flouncing off the thread, you are inviting more unwanted crtisism.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

dontbesillyhenry · 26/09/2017 09:19

Young and quirky my foot.
Maybe pretentious hipsters who don't think how their kids will feel saddled with a silly name is a more accurate description

lovelyupnorth · 26/09/2017 09:24

Just see you in Asda - yelling - Mellow - please Mellow Down, Mellie please put that down....

this has to be a WTF name

Babymamamama · 26/09/2017 09:27

Not keen at all - makes me think of mellow yellow I think it was an old coffee brand. Can I offer an alternative: Meadow. Always loved that name I heard it first on The Sopranos. Tony's daughter. Still miss that show!

Needalifeoverhaul · 26/09/2017 09:27

Ooh I love the suggestion from pp of Misty! OP, I hope you're still around. There have been some lovely suggestions on here namewise. Criticism is horrible but at the end of the day it is only people voicing their honest opinions so don't take it personally. Flowers

PandorasXbox · 26/09/2017 09:31

Mellow?

Get out of town.

Jooni · 26/09/2017 09:43

Oh my. Sorry OP but you did ask! And your description of yourself as "young, quirky, individual" is bound to get Hmm

I think the OP has left but if anyone else fancies a kooky M name that expresses their unbridled individuality, I've come up with:

Minnow
Minuet
Marmite
Moxie
Morocco
Molasses
Margarine
Magazine
Mississippi
Murmer
Marbella
Marseilles
Muslin
Mobilo
Meadowlark
Mensa
