Alicia - how would you pronounce?

I like this name, but pronounced Alissia (like Alicia Vikander), not Aleesha (like Alicia Keys). How would you think to pronounce it? Wondering if pronounciation confusion would be an issue in the UK? I think 'aleesha' is the American way?

With an s sound - Allissia.

I would usually pronounce it A-liss-EE-uh unless told otherwise -I know it can also be pronounced Aleisha but that seems like the less common pronunciation to me.

Al iss ear.

I hate the al ee sha pronunciation, it grates!

LorLorr2 · 30/08/2017 16:34

I would pronounce it Alissia. I had a good friend with that name growing up and it was always said like that, nobody ever used the 'eesh' pronunciation

LorLorr2 · 30/08/2017 16:35

*with the name Alicia

PlausibleSuit · 30/08/2017 16:36

I'd pronounce it A-leesh-a but then I've been conditioned by seven years watching The Good Wife.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2017 16:38

I know an A-liss-ee-ah and an A-lees-ee-ah. I tend to go with the pronunciation that I'm told.

absolutelyclueless · 30/08/2017 16:38

I have a 19 year old Alicia. (Pronounced Alissia.)

You're right, so many people call her Aleesha, which is the American pronunciation. She used to get really upset about it (neither of us like that, it's a completely different name and not in our opinion very nice to the ear), but now she just ignores people until they pronounce it the English way 😃.

PuppyMonkey · 30/08/2017 16:39

Aleesha, like Aleesha Florrick from The Good Wife...

chamenanged30 · 30/08/2017 16:44

grufallosfriend · 30/08/2017 16:56

I mean Alicia pronounced Alisha, like Patricia is Patrisha

BillBrysonsBeard · 30/08/2017 16:57

I would say Al-ee-sha as the people I know with that name pronounce it like that. I would spell it Alissia to avoid constant correcting'

Chloris33 · 30/08/2017 17:03

Interesting, thank you!
