So with DC1 we didn't tell anyone our name thoughts as we didn't want their opinion.

Unfortunately we've just been to MILs & DC1 let slip my favourite name for DC2 - Sebastian. Que her saying 'you can't call him THAT... people at school will nickname him bastard'

Erm... no, no they won't, fuming!!! Now she's put DH off no doubt. Can't believe she said it in front of DC either. She's not my favourite person at the best of times but today it's really riled me tbh.

Just wanted to rant!!!! Arrgghhh!!!!

Of course you can expect a grandmother not to swear in front of her grandkids!

People are not perfect. They speak sometimes without fully considering their audience. But posters on here seem willing to call her a dick and hang her out to dry for what is actually only a little thing. I bet it's a very rare parent who hasn't themselves said something inappropriate within a child's earshot - people forget kids are listening sometimes.
The OP's main concern is that mil will have enough influence over her dh to put him off the name, the language was a secondary concern. That's the root of it here, that mil's opinion might actually be important to her dh.
