we've named our baby girl Finley but struggling with a middle name that we both love
My favourite is Grace however my partner is not as in love as me
Looking for any other ideas..
Big sister is Millie Rose so can't have Rose

I know not everyone is a fan of unisex names but we really love them and had Bobbi, Charley, Noa, Parker and spencer on our list before falling in love with Finley

Thanks :)

There's no need to get bogged down in semantics, imo.

Leslie/Lesley- same name, different spelling. Doesn't make them different names!

Anyway, I like Finley grace!

HappyLollipop · 14/08/2017 11:33

Finley is cute although I associate it more as a boys name it works for both sexes, I have friends that named their daughters Cameron and Riley though so I'm used to conventional boys names being used on girls! I like Finley Belle

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2017 11:36

There is no such thing as a unisex name. Except possibly Frances/is.

There are boys' names that are used for girls. Which is a different thing.

Amee1992x · 14/08/2017 11:47

Finley id lovely! Also like Bobbi. We are expecting a girl Spencer ❤️

CharleyAnn · 14/08/2017 11:58

Hey Kelly! 🙋

She has a beautiful name! I'm Charley Ann.. Smile

If all your friends and family are on board then go for it! There's so many middle names for your girl and she might like the unisex trend to her name. Own it like I do - I couldn't imagine myself having any other name!

I must admit I went through a phase of not liking my name because I wanted something girly but I'll probably get that out of me when I have children of my own (only come on here to hear all the beautiful names!)

I'd had a lot of comments growing up of 'Isn't that a boys name?' and people always assuming before they see me that I'm a boy. Also, a lot of 'Is it short for Charlotte?' A nasty comment or two whilst being in my 20s from people who are a lot older than me but I tend to ignore them.

I know a boy who has the same spelling as me as well as girls and also the same for the ie spelling (boys and girls).

I was the only girl in my class of my name (not a single boy Charlie either) so I loved being unique :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy and finding such a beautiful name too! Look forward to seeing what you choose for a middle name! Flowers xxx

Oh, and tell your niece she has an ace name! Wink xx

I love Cameron for a girl!

Finley Noa is nice.

chamenanged30 · 14/08/2017 15:14

Can I add my two cents. Have you considered that she might want a girly choice? Both shortenings are still largely male too: Finn and Lee (yes Leigh is female but not terribly familiar in this generation).

MammieBear · 14/08/2017 15:41

Pearl is the name that first came to my mind. Smile

Please don't "fiddle with spellings to make it sound more girly".

Fin-Leigh is atrocious, the others are no better.

As for MammieBears list, half of those are not even names!

I think Finley Grace is a beautiful name.

Kr1stina · 14/08/2017 22:56

I have name that is used for boys and girls but with different spellings , like Frances / Francis . I hated it as a child / teenager and don't particularly like it now.

I still get a lot of emails and letters addressed to Mr Francis Smith, especially at work. It's particularly annoying when I have met the writer and I think they should have spotted that I am a woman. My name may be ambiguous but my voice and appearance are not.

Clearly the default human / person in my job is male.

Your child will spend her whole life with people saying

" oh I thought Findlay was a boys name "

" no my mum found it in a book of unique names, she changed the spelling and that makes it a girls name"

" I see " Hmm

Please choose a name that is commonly used for both sexes and with the normal spelling e.g. Cameron, Kim

Would you call your son a girls name with a different spelling to make it male? What about Emmilleee or Ameeelia - are these boys names because they have an unconventional spelling ?

Taking a boys name and changing the spelling doesn't make it female.

It also sounds like you really wanted a boy and are disappointed with a girl.
