I adore this name but i'm not sure whether i should go with Francesca as i think she will get Cesca. Other option is Frances but i think it would probably get shortened to Fran, again don't like. Opinions and advice needed pleaseGrin

I don't think you can ever stop nicknames tbh. DD's friend Francesca (gorgeous name) is mainly called that or Cesca by her mum but is Frankie to all her school friends. I like all of those variations, not keen on Frances.

I love Frances, very classic.

Chaffinch4 · 10/08/2017 11:13

Frances with nn Frankie. Lovely.

Billiebobwoo · 10/08/2017 11:15

I would go with Francesca nn Frankie...you can guide a nn to a certain extent. If she's only been called Frankie chances are that is the diminutive she will relate herself to. She may decide she wants to create her own identity within her peer group and become Cheska though, but by that age her name will just be 'her' and you probably won't mind as much x

I don't like Frankie at all. Francesca is lovely though.

NC4now · 10/08/2017 11:48

Francesca NN Frankie

Francesca

Ontopofthesunset · 10/08/2017 11:51

I don't like Frankie for a girl. I think Francesca is a lovely name, but like Frances too. I think with a long name like Francesca at some point it will get shortened. You can try to control it by choosing an abbreviation you like, but if you intend to use the full name, her friends will come up with something anyway!

MrsJayy · 10/08/2017 11:54

Francesca is nice i know a couple of female Frankies 2 adults i hate Frances sorry it just sounds so harsh

daisypond · 10/08/2017 11:57

I like both Francesca and Frances, though I prefer Frances.

FlossieFrog · 10/08/2017 12:08

What about Franca?

Nanasueathome · 10/08/2017 12:09

Has to be Francesca

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2017 12:10

All the women I know called either Frances or Francesca hate their name and go by Frankie. So i would go with Frankie!

PhuntSox · 10/08/2017 12:15

Frances!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/08/2017 12:19

Frances. If you want her to be called Frankie just introduce her as such & never mention her actual name to anyone ever .

Redtartanshoes · 10/08/2017 12:24

Just call her Frankie. It's a lovely name

harrietm87 · 10/08/2017 12:42

Frances

Scribblegirl · 10/08/2017 12:48

My friend Francesca is a Chess to her her friends - similar to Cheska but could be an alternative?

Alternatively I know another Francesca who is Francie.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/08/2017 12:54

France's, but I don't like Frankie.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/08/2017 12:55

Francesca's a gorgeous name and gives her loads of options when she wants to take ownership of her name.

I have one of those names (with lots of options). Hated my parents' chosen nickname but as a teen was able to shorten the way I liked without any drama and I love it as a full 'grown up' name in formal situations.

RiverTam · 10/08/2017 13:04

Frances is a beautiful name, Frankie is horrible. Not keen on Francesca.

Sophronia · 10/08/2017 14:41

Definitely Frances. I've never liked Francesca.

Dizzywhore · 10/08/2017 14:48

Love Francesca hate Frankie!

Your child you choose what you and other people call her. Family, school etc.

Janika · 10/08/2017 14:57

I knew a Frances who called herself Fanny we didn't bat an eyelid but that was 30 years ago and didn't have the same connotations as today.
