I am looking for an unfussy name that works in various languages. One syllable would be good. I like Ros but none of the longer versions, so what about Rose?
Any opinions or suggestions appreciated. Thanks

NapQueen You have a Meg! Envy I love it; DH said no because of Family Guy (boo hiss)

I also adore Liv but am put off by the popularity of Olivia and people assuming Liv is a nickname for it.

OP I do like Rose - simple and timeless. Maybe a bit bland though?

Other ideas, trying not to repeat any:

Joss
Cleo
Ada
Ida
Vita
Rue
Noa
Cass
Emme
June
Fia
Una
Neve
Fern
Lois
Elle
Zoe
Bea

June!

May
Meg
Rose
June
Jude?

(she won't be born in May or June but I don't think that matters!)

blink you just put Meg on the bc.

I floated the idea with dh pre kids. He wasnt keen. I adore Little Women so thats my connection with it rather than Family Guy. At about 30 weeks he suggested Meg for a dd. Must be subliminal Grin so I said ooo yes good choice!

NapQueen · 02/08/2017 21:53

What about Juno?

NapQueen · 02/08/2017 21:54

Zoe/Zoey is also great.

I really live Blythe but we live near a not too nice town called Blyth.

HairyMcFairy16 · 02/08/2017 21:55

SealSong · 02/08/2017 21:56

Joy

blinkineckmum · 02/08/2017 21:56

Actually, anything with an oo sound is probably out sue to my son's name. Shame!

Dontrocktheboat · 02/08/2017 21:57

Rose is nice though, as is Meg.

pigeondujour · 02/08/2017 21:57

Mila is a good subtle nod to Meg too Grin

PanannyPanoo · 02/08/2017 21:59

or Beth
or Amy absolutely love Meg. inspired my other thoughts!

blinkineckmum · 02/08/2017 22:00

Thanks everyone. Taking a break. I'll sleep on it. Ages to go but if I want to work on those subliminal messages I'd better get to work soon! Very happy to hear more suggestions in case DH isn't into any of the ones I like!

Which languages do you want the name to work in?

Trustmeimadoggroomer17 · 02/08/2017 22:13

My DD second half of her name is rose everybkdy says her name is beautiful

BubblesBuddy · 02/08/2017 22:15

Meg is a very common name for a sheepdog. Rosie and Rose were ultra popular about 20 plus years ago. Possibly fewer now. My DD has Rose as a third forename. We have lots of versions of "Rose" in our family history - Rosetta, Rosalie, Rosanna, Rose. All were second forenames but all the ladies used them as a first name! Except us!

Hakarl · 02/08/2017 22:16

I really like Rose but I'm not sure it works in many languages. Rosa is very, very international, but not Rose I don't think.

Which languages are you concerned with? It's really impossible to suggest anything without knowing that.

blinkineckmum · 02/08/2017 22:26

Languages are French and Spanish. But Rose/ Rosa. It can change a bit. I have lived in France and Spain and changed my name slightly to make it easier to pronounce.

NameChange30 · 02/08/2017 22:33

Hmm. I think Rose is beautiful in an English accent but less so in a French one. I think the French "r" is a bit harsh at the beginning.

I don't think Meg (short for Margaret or Megan) would work in French either. Sorry!

Emma?

NameChange30 · 02/08/2017 22:36

Ah I've just seen that you said Emma is too sensible. I don't think so. Jane, yes, but not Emma. (Clearly I've been influenced by the Jane Austen characters! Grin)

fleshmarketclose · 02/08/2017 22:39

I have a Rosie but I call her Lou which is silly really. Rose and Rosie are lovely names and age nicely. Dd is a young adult now and it still works just as well as it did when she was a cute toddler.

Rainbowqueeen · 02/08/2017 22:52

Rose is gorgeous

Jooni · 03/08/2017 03:44

So French, Spanish and English...

Cora
Nora
Alix
Elin
Noemi(e)
Frida
Vera
Astrid
Hana
Isa
Alma/Alba
Zara
Greta
Lena
Mia

Sorry, can't think of any single-syllable ones that haven't already been suggested.
