Ivo or Otto?

Any preference or opinion on these two? Thanks.

Ivo definitely.

DramaAlpaca · 01/08/2017 23:52

I much prefer Ivo, despite the possible pronunciation issues - EE-vo or EYE-vo.

I find Otto an unattractive name.

elQuintoConyo · 01/08/2017 23:56

Ivo sounds like a hiccup. I have only heard kt pronounced ee-vo, sounds too much like evil.

I prefer Otto. I also like it spelt backwards Grin

Icewindfire98 · 01/08/2017 23:58

Ivor is much much nicer

EmmyInTheSticks · 02/08/2017 00:01

I'm thinking Eye-vo definitely as the pronunciation. Didn't realise there was a possibility of EE-vo. Something to consider thanks.

I love both! Ivo just edges it for me (pronounced Ee-vo)

soundsystem · 02/08/2017 00:05

Cross post!

With the update on pronunciation I prefer Otto

Which goes best within your surname? Otto was top of our list for DS for a long time but in the end we went for a different name, because we have a German surname and it was a bit much (we're not German). I pushed for Ivo but DH wasn't as keen because "it sounds a bit like evil".

alltouchedout · 02/08/2017 00:06

Ivo, I think, if it's pronounced Eye-vo.

elQuintoConyo · 02/08/2017 00:07

Oh, Ivor is lovely. Sounds like a name. Ivo just... doesn't. Sorry Blush

TheVanguardSix · 02/08/2017 00:07

Ivo.

Otto is a wonderful name but I prefer Ivo. Otto is quite popular now whereas Ivo is still quite unique. I like Otis as well and Ivan.

Floggingmolly · 02/08/2017 00:09

Ivo.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 02/08/2017 00:11

Ivo

Purely because Otto reminds me of Otters.

tinhead · 02/08/2017 00:12

I assumed eye-vo pronunciation too.

TBH Otto makes me think 'bottom' without the first and last letters Confused

Agustarella · 02/08/2017 00:47

You could spell Otto 'Otho', like the emperor, then it wouldn't look like 'bottom'.

Ginandplatonic · 02/08/2017 00:50

Ivo definitely. I thought the pronunciation Eye-vo was standard.

Sophronia · 02/08/2017 01:35

Otto

YouLookTiredDaddyPig · 02/08/2017 01:50

Both are awesome, but Otto is awesomer.

P.S. I would pronounce it Ee-vo not Eye-vo.

OverAndAbove · 02/08/2017 01:54

I think Otto is quite a harsh Germanic sounding name; Ivo is softer but lovely and straightforward sounding

OverAndAbove · 02/08/2017 01:55

Oh it's definitely Eye-vo isn't it?!

Mrsknackered · 02/08/2017 01:56

I like both, but I think I love Otto.

SuperBeagle · 02/08/2017 02:32

Otto.

But Otis is infinitely nicer than Otto.

Ivo sounds like a nickname. Australians shorten male names by whacking an "o" on the end. Ivo could easily be Australian slang for Ivan.

Evangeline3 · 02/08/2017 02:50

Ivo, beautiful.

Jooni · 02/08/2017 05:12

Both fab, but I especially love Ivo!

Insponeeded · 02/08/2017 08:42

Ivo is Eve-vo, like Ivy,Ivan,Iris...I can't think of an example where a name starts with a soft I?
Anyway, I prefer Ivo x

Insponeeded · 02/08/2017 08:44

I take it back...Imogen,Ingrid...there are a few🙈
