We have a Violet, but somewhere along the line she's picked up the nickname Velvet Confused
Love the name.

Guccibelt · 23/07/2017 08:50

Don't like it at all, nor similar names like Ivy. Loads of threads on here about it and very popular at the moment.

Guccibelt · 23/07/2017 08:51

I had an auntie Vi and it's just so old-fashioned.

pilates · 23/07/2017 08:55

Yes

ladystarkers · 23/07/2017 08:58

Love it

Joeybee · 23/07/2017 09:48

LOVE it! It's on my list. Only downside is no obvious nice nicknames.

Wingbing · 23/07/2017 09:53

Love it.

I can't relate to thinking its close to Violent. So many names can be changed to a negative meaning with one letter.

Sam = spam, scam sap etc...

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2017 14:16

Velvet is great.
Violet is nice when enunciated properly. Might get abbreviated to Vile.
Viola is pretty but would it be Vee-ola , Vy-ola or VY-ola?

ImMrsBrightside · 23/07/2017 14:21

I have a Violet and no one calls her Vi. Her nickname is just V

TheHiphopopotamus · 23/07/2017 14:34

I like it.

It makes me want to sing though. 'And the sky was all violet. I wanna give the violent more violets'.

n0ne · 23/07/2017 14:38

Yes

Winston84 · 23/07/2017 14:39

No.

Gotanewusernamenow · 23/07/2017 14:39

Sorry.no

sunfloweras · 23/07/2017 14:47

I like it

Gaggleofgirls · 24/07/2017 02:46

Yes love it.
It's my DDs Mn, Eloise Violet

PandaCat · 24/07/2017 07:41

I like it, it's on my girls list. Although I doubt I'll use it as I dislike how Vi-o-let becomes Vi-lut as someone else has mentioned before.

lynmilne65 · 24/07/2017 09:27

👍🙂

TonicAndTonic · 24/07/2017 10:32

It's ok, although my granny was a Violet/Vee and she hated it! I think my issue is that it's a bit of a mouthful and doesn't abbreviate particularly well. Ditto Viola and Violette.

FizzyGreenWater · 24/07/2017 17:47

No, it should be nice as it's a lovely old fashioned flower name - but actually it's just a really harsh word. And Vi is terrible.

Pronunciation issues too - it's Viy-LUT here!

So - I think that unlike those flower names that are actually nice words to say and sound timeless, this one will date badly.

JaydeHannah · 24/07/2017 17:55

I love it! Were expecting a boy so thats out of the window anyway but its a good job as surname is Vinecombe...Violet Vinecombe Blush

Fontella · 24/07/2017 18:36

Love it! In fact I love all the 'flower' names. My mum (who died last year) was Iris and we also had an Auntie Lily.

Ilseburnley · 24/07/2017 19:55

Love it. Was on the shortlist for my youngest but he was a boy!

FluffyMcCloud · 24/07/2017 19:58

No, I don't like it. I think of violent, and of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory "Violet, you're turning violet!". It's very trendy and "now" but I'm really not keen...
