Do you like the name Violet?

It seems some people love it and others hate it just want to see which opinion is the majority before or if i use it?

We have a Violet, but somewhere along the line she's picked up the nickname Velvet
Love the name.

Don't like it at all, nor similar names like Ivy. Loads of threads on here about it and very popular at the moment.

I had an auntie Vi and it's just so old-fashioned.

I can't relate to thinking its close to Violent. So many names can be changed to a negative meaning with one letter.

Velvet is great.
Violet is nice when enunciated properly. Might get abbreviated to Vile.
Viola is pretty but would it be Vee-ola , Vy-ola or VY-ola?

I have a Violet and no one calls her Vi. Her nickname is just V

I like it, it's on my girls list. Although I doubt I'll use it as I dislike how Vi-o-let becomes Vi-lut as someone else has mentioned before.

It's ok, although my granny was a Violet/Vee and she hated it! I think my issue is that it's a bit of a mouthful and doesn't abbreviate particularly well. Ditto Viola and Violette.

No, it should be nice as it's a lovely old fashioned flower name - but actually it's just a really harsh word. And Vi is terrible.

Pronunciation issues too - it's Viy-LUT here!

So - I think that unlike those flower names that are actually nice words to say and sound timeless, this one will date badly.

Love it! In fact I love all the 'flower' names. My mum (who died last year) was Iris and we also had an Auntie Lily.
