Yes and it also makes a fab middle name

MargaretCabbage · 22/07/2017 17:46

I love it.

Crunchymum · 22/07/2017 19:26

Not a fan. Don't dislike it though. It just isn't for me.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 22/07/2017 20:15

happyinherts,

Oh, I do love Coral. Smile

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 22/07/2017 20:16

^ Sorry, OP...forgot you weren't asking for other names too!

flickerty · 22/07/2017 20:21

I love it. It's my mums middle name. Tempted by Violette instead as DH is french but he doesn't want to call his daughter 'purple'

(I'm not expecting btw, all hypothetical)

jinglebitch · 22/07/2017 20:45

I have a Violet, and disliked Vi, so we call her V, or Vivi (veevee) and it works fine. Love it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/07/2017 20:46

No. Really don't.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/07/2017 20:48

"Violet! You're turning violet, Violet!"

^ No. For that reason.

upperlimit · 22/07/2017 20:58

Yeah, I think it's alright. I think it'll be fine so long as your surname isn't Hunt or Knight or something else which together makes your child sound like a gaming character.

mondler · 22/07/2017 21:17

I like it but DH doesn't. Personally I don't think it as dated as I grew up with one (so she'd be in her 30s), there's a 90 year old one I know and my 7 year niece is friends with one. So lots of generations!

TurquoiseOwl · 22/07/2017 21:18

Yes

Chocachoo · 22/07/2017 22:23

Re nickname, I'd actually use Lottie!

YippeeTeenager · 22/07/2017 22:26

Sorry, really, really don't like it, reminds me of toilet.

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 23/07/2017 00:06

It's not my first choice. Seems a bit dated to me.
Too similar to violent.
It's OK as vi-o-let, but I hate it when people get lazy and say vi-lut.
What had the o done to upset you?

Pineappleandcheeseonsticks · 23/07/2017 00:13

It reminds me of little purple sweets. But that's not necessarily a bad thing :)

Raines100 · 23/07/2017 07:26

I don't like it, sorry.

bumblingmum · 23/07/2017 08:09

I like it too. What about Lettie for a NN? Although I prefer Vi or V

Emboo19 · 23/07/2017 08:27

Love it! Maybe biased though as DD is a Violet. We use Letty or Vi,Vi (to rhyme with my,my) as nicknames. Sometimes her dad calls her V (letter name, rhymes with he) then again sometimes he calls her lilt (yep as in the drink Confused)

Emboo19 · 23/07/2017 08:38

Never thought of the violent thing, not that it bothers me.

I've only just realised though that my bf has a name where if you change the first letter it makes a fair few different words. He's not too impressed that I'm telling him this when he's hungover though Grin

juliasalinger · 23/07/2017 08:38

A year ago I would have said I didn't really like it. But there's now a lovely Violet in my DD's class and it's really grown on me. I also knew a girl with another V name who was known as "Vee" rather than Vi('Vy')which is a nicer sounding nn for an older girl.

TrainedGiant · 23/07/2017 08:41

I prefer Viola. The violent association and Violet Beauregard both make me doubt Violet.

afatalflaw · 23/07/2017 08:42

I like it but think Viola sounds softer.

ScarletForYa · 23/07/2017 08:42

It reminds me of violent and violate. But that's just a personal thing!
