My other half is a HUGE formula 1 fan and his favourite driver of all time is kimi raikkonen hence his suggestion for the name for our wee one due in November! When I say it out loud I actually really like it but I'm not sure we would be condemning our wee boy to lots of teasing!? Help!

Just to add that it's a Finnish name pronounced keemi rather than kimmi!

Obviously you can call your child what you like and I don't buy into the idea that certain names rule out a career as a high court judge/are guaranteed to result in bullying..

Having said all that.. it is still a terrible name. Sorry.

Ninjakittysmells · 22/07/2017 12:43

I know a baby kimi! His mum is Finnish and very well to do. He's a cutey and it suits him. It's funny how when you 'know' a name it takes on positive connotations.

SuperBeagle · 22/07/2017 12:45

I'd assume the child was a girl and it was pronounced Kimmy.

It just makes me think of Kimi from the Rugrats in Paris movie, though I appreciate that's a niche reference.

NemosKnickers · 22/07/2017 12:46

Unless you live in Finland people will assume it's 'Kimmy' and that he's a girl.

Loyly · 22/07/2017 12:49

I know it as a regular Finnish name and I like it but you might get bored of people pronouncing it Kimmy. Räikkönen's name is almost always mispronounced on TV in the UK, for instance.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 22/07/2017 12:52

I really like it, but I would probably assume Kimmy until corrected then I'd get it right. I do like boys with gender neutral names though I have a Jude and he is obviously a boy!

peonie83 · 22/07/2017 12:53

I know a Kimi she's adorable as a baby

DownUdderer · 22/07/2017 12:59

For a boy? Nope

MumBod · 22/07/2017 13:35

Schmidt

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/07/2017 17:00

I like it. Yes I would need to be told how to pronounce it on meeting but it's a simple name to get used to. Never heard it before but I actually like it alot

IHateUncleJamie · 22/07/2017 17:02

Are either of you Finnish? If so, it's ok. If not, I wouldn't - and I'm a huge F1 fan.

"I like it. Yes I would need to be told how to pronounce it on meeting but it's a simple name to get used to."

Every single time he gives his name for his whole life.

MaidenMotherCrone · 22/07/2017 17:20

Kath and Kim springs to mind.

Sophronia · 22/07/2017 17:42

I think it's fine. I know a male Kim and he doesn't have any problems with his name.

lljkk · 22/07/2017 17:43

I think you can make it your own but that would be a lot easier in a multicultural type place (think London rather than Whitehaven).
Could anglicise the spelling to get pronunciation right, too, so make it Keemi.

Kimberley was originally a boy name.

grasspigeons · 22/07/2017 17:49

I like F1 - I don't hate the name, there are just so many other F1 inspired names I love more.

lazycrazyhazy · 22/07/2017 17:50

I always think of Kim as a boy's name I suppose because of Kipling. I always assumed it had become Kimberley and become used for girls in the USA and that had gradually taken over. I therefore wouldn't be surprised to find a Kimi of either gender.

TheHiphopopotamus · 22/07/2017 17:53

I like Kim for a boy, not sure about Kimi though.

My mate had a cat called Kimmy and it reminds me too much of that, I think.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/07/2017 17:53

I'd think girl and pronounce it like Kim with a y on the end.

Cantseemytoesanymore · 22/07/2017 17:55

Thanks for all of your replies - I can see that it divides opinion! I can see that the pronunciation issue could be a tricky one but then I've always had that issue with my own name and lived to tell the tale! Definitely not written off the list yet :)

Pronounced keemee?

WaitrosePigeon · 22/07/2017 17:56

Ah yes I see that's how it's pronounced. I quite like it, it's cute.

Flossy1978 · 22/07/2017 17:56

It is not pronounced as either Keemi or Kimmi. In Finnish you pronounce every letter exactly as it is. It is Ki-mi. Simple as that.
