What do you think of the name Margot?

villainousbroodmare · 20/07/2017 20:39

Like it.

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2017 20:44

You asked for honest opinions so I'll say I really dislike it. It looks & sounds very harsh to me. I don't see it as a classy or elegant name. Sorry.

PanannyPanoo · 20/07/2017 20:46

I think of Margot Fonteyn. Stunning association. Beautiful name. I think Margie is a pretty Nick name.

grasspigeons · 20/07/2017 20:46

It's nice. I prefer margaret

PanannyPanoo · 20/07/2017 20:47

Its the epitome of elegance in my opinion!

Mrsknackered · 20/07/2017 20:50

I love it!

NameChange30 · 20/07/2017 21:03

I like it. Classy and classic.
In France the Margot spelling is just as popular as Margaux, if not more so. The one I know is Margot. Depends if you want people to think you named your daughter after the wine (Chateau Margaux)!

livefrommysofa · 20/07/2017 21:07

I love it, it's on my list if I ever have kids. I think Margot Robbie has made it popular recently

Enidblyton1 · 20/07/2017 21:09

Love it!
I know several baby Margots - I think it's slowly becoming quite popular

niceandspicey · 20/07/2017 21:11

Love it!!

LynetteScavo · 20/07/2017 22:03

I live it.

Usually I like things to be traditional, but I would go with Margo if I had a girl baby tomorrow.

Be warned though, it's my favourite girls name ATM, and I have a knack of loving names that are about to become really popular.

NoPressureNoDiamonds · 20/07/2017 22:08

Thanks all!

Margot isn't one I like to be honest. Think it could be much prettier with the -aux french spelling suggested by PPs. She will end up being called "Maggie" at some point and for that reason alone I would avoid it.

NameChange30 · 20/07/2017 22:20

I don't think that Maggie is an inevitable nickname.

Ojoj1974 · 20/07/2017 22:22

Lovely. I also love the slightly softer Marguerite

Buntysoven · 21/07/2017 01:06

Too harsh for my taste and don't like nns. Sorry.

CheerfulYank · 21/07/2017 01:15

I like Margo but not Margot.

And I have a Margaret called Maggie. I love it and it suits her :)

Cami12 · 21/07/2017 02:16

Ultra cool.

Mclaren37 · 21/07/2017 02:27

Love it. Our Margot is 2! Personally I also prefer the correct spelling with the 't'.

Mclaren37 · 21/07/2017 02:29

(She has never been called Maggie, although we do sometimes call her Marge for a laughWink).

MagnumAddict · 21/07/2017 02:32

I really like it. DH put me off with his maggot reference, seems to be a theme for some but I didn't see it at all but the fact I knew he did would have annoyed me!

Recently he suggested it for our DD due at the end of August. I was slightly irrationally furious! I may have intentionally ruined a few of his faves my coming up with weird tenuous links!!

I think of of Margot Tennembaum who is such a cool character from the film

FodieJoster · 21/07/2017 02:39

I too think of The Good Life, but I loved Penelope Keith's character and I also love the name.

Nicknames such as Mari / Mara would be cute if you don't like Marge or Maggie.

watchingitallagain · 21/07/2017 02:40

It's top of our list here. We're Tennenbaum fans as well.

Margaux is the name of a grape.

auntym · 21/07/2017 06:59

Margo spelling is best imo and I should know Smile

NoPressureNoDiamonds · 21/07/2017 08:45

I love the spelling Margot and I have a thing against nicknames (I know I will have very little control over this as she gets older but we won't nickname her). I also love Marguerite and hadn't thought of that - very pretty.
I think as a lot of PP have pointed out it reminds my parents generation of the good life and that's why I know they won't like it but I think of Margot Robbie and Margot Tennenbaum too.
We have one marmite name (love it or hate it) for our oldest so I guess this might just be another!
