Eric - cute or old man?

DH and I have both agreed we like the name Eric. Both of my grandads were Eric and if we have a boy, I would definitely want it in there somewhere. I thought it would make a good middle name but the more we think about it, the more we like it as a Christian name. Or are we lumbering a baby with an old man's name? Granted, he'll be old some day but still!

I know a 3 year old Eric.

TartanDMs · 17/07/2017 22:29

I like it spelt Erik, like.the Phantom of the Opera.

fleshmarketclose · 17/07/2017 22:32

It's our dog's name, he's named after Bananaman. I think it's cute and not too old man.

Silverthorn · 17/07/2017 22:44

It's really cute. Love it.

bluechameleon · 17/07/2017 22:48

I wasn't keen but now I know a 2yo Eric well and think it's cute.

TrishanFlips · 17/07/2017 23:03

Unusual enough now to be cool. Go for it.

SuperBeagle · 17/07/2017 23:08

I like it.

Wouldn't worry about the Columbine thing; it's such a niche reference.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/07/2017 23:19

Eric Cowell and Eric Cantona, both different ends of the scale, both gorgeous ! Call your baby Eric. 😄

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 17/07/2017 23:51

I know a cute little Eric.
He's about 3 now.
Sometimes he gets called Ricky as a nn.
He was named after grandad too.

bridgetreilly · 17/07/2017 23:54

Good classic name. Go for it!

Buntysoven · 18/07/2017 00:53

I've surprised myself by really liking it

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 00:57

I know 1 Eric. He's a millennial. I like it.

LadyoftheLake123 · 18/07/2017 08:37

Must admit I'm biased as both DH and I had beloved grandads called Eric (so we're probably going to use it as DS1's middle name when he arrives later in the year) but I think it's a lovely name. Old man, yes, but there are loads of old man names around at the moment so wouldn't be surprised if it gets more popular. Also has a Viking feel, which is fun! It's pretty popular in the USA, for people my age (30s) at least, which shows how subjective these things are - no old man associations over there. Lovely name!

IrregularCommentary · 18/07/2017 09:16

Ooh, really like it.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 18/07/2017 09:28

Old man in a cool way.

laGrosellaEspinosa · 18/07/2017 09:31

I kind of like it. Can you spell it with a K though.

I hate to sound like a Kardashian (I never watch that show) but Eric v Erik......... Erik has a scandinavian vibe.

ilivebythesea · 18/07/2017 09:49

I know a teenage Erik - his mum is Norwegian, and it's a pop name over there. He's at the awkward teen years now, and isn't keen on it, esp after Simon Cowell named his son Eric, so goes by nn Rik.

MrsJoyOdell · 18/07/2017 09:51

I adore Eric and desperately wanted it for DS1 10 years ago. DM told me it would be 'unfair' to give him such an old man name. Now old man names are all the rage and Eric is on the up (because it's lovely).
DS1 has it for the middle name as I was utterly unmoveable on having it in there somewhere. I still wish I'd gone with it sometimes tbh!

Jooni · 18/07/2017 09:53

I don't hate it, nor do I love it, but it's cute for a baby. I actually know one who's about 6 months. I think I prefer Erik though for the Viking cool factor

woodhill · 18/07/2017 10:00

I must admit I thought of Eric Sykes straight away but I don't think it's a bad name.

MackerelOfFact · 18/07/2017 10:10

I just think Cartman from South Park. It has a bit of a 'slapstick comedy' vibe to me, and not in a good way.

cakesandphotos · 18/07/2017 10:15

I wouldn't use Erik I don't think, my cousin's DS middle name is Erik so I would prefer to stick to the way my grandads spelt it :) good to know I'm not alone in loving it! I think we may have decided on Eric James

Threeandabit · 18/07/2017 21:24
