Is the Baby Name Finder on glue???

Just looked up David in the MN Baby Name Finder. It's a family name we've considered but I'm on the fence so thought I'd see what similar names they suggested. They came up with - wait for it - FESTER. Baby FESTER. Can only conclude that the name finder is tripping balls. Grin

Put in DD1's name and a boys suggestions were Murdo and Hannibal. For a girl it suggested Bodza.
For DD2's name, it suggested we might like to name a future son Birger or Urban. For girls it suggested Tempany or Corrie.
Both have traditional Gaelic names. Don't think we'll be naming siblings after cannibals or tv shows...

This may have been added by me whenthename finder thing was new...

When I searched DS's name, one of the suggestions was 'Pesto' 😂

I thought Etienne was French for Stephen?

When I searched on Fanjolina just now the "When I hear this I think of" bit said that comewhinewithme had added it.

Which would make sense. Plenty of sense.

FlaviaAlbia · 18/07/2017 08:57

Oh, your right Empress, I thought it was the feminine version of it Blush

IJsbrand, Hopper or Wolfgang for Alexander?

I bet some poor work experience student will be given the job of sorting it Wink

Miroslava and Bogomil are both perfectly normal names if you happen to be in former Yugoslavia (possibly more of Eastern Europe)

ExplodedCloud · 18/07/2017 10:05

For DH's very ordinary name it suggested an alternative girl's name of George Confused and my dad's ordinary name turns up an alternative boy's name of Speckles.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2017 10:43

Maryz, I suspect they haven't looked, no.

I can't delete Akkuntalina either and there clearly was no kind of review process for adding names :o

SoupDragon · 18/07/2017 10:44

I strongly suspect a large proportion of names on there are made up. Hand on heart, I'm only resonpsible for one though!

SoupDragon · 18/07/2017 10:45

("Strongly suspect"?? What am I saying?! Pesto, Fester and Fanjolina? Of course they are made up! Great for a set of triplets though.)

I raise you Bilbo (for a boy) or Jenga (for a girl) based on my dd's unusual but classic name Grin

LouMumsnet · 18/07/2017 17:47

FlaviaAlbia, I'm far too old to be a work experience student, more's the pity Grin

Thank you so much to you all for flagging this up to us. We really appreciate it. We've now had a look and we've removed some of the more, er, unusual, additions on there. Let's hope it works a bit more smoothly for you all from now on. Although, for what it's worth, we reckon Stormageddon is pretty fabulous for a boy or a girl.....

FlaviaAlbia · 18/07/2017 18:04

Ha, I always get a jolt when I see my name in a MNHQ post in case I'm in trouble Grin

Sadik · 18/07/2017 18:20

Well I tried dd's name again, and the suggestions were:
Boys - Sdgf, Howard, Niven, Mithian
Girls - Rococo, Ireen, Wajiha, Tallie

Pootle for a girl???

That's completely & utterly ridiculous.

Pootle Flump was a BOY.

elephantoverthehill · 18/07/2017 21:42

Pootle was one of my pet names for Ds2 Smile
