Trying to pick between these 3 but we're at a stalemate!

Whoops I meant Shira!

Shiri is actually a popular Hebrew name , it means "my song".

Sophronia · 07/07/2017 23:51

I like all of them, but Alma is my favourite.

FrogsLegs31 · 07/07/2017 23:52

Shira sounds the nicest and has the best meaning in my opinion Smile

FeralBeryl · 08/07/2017 00:28

I love Shiri and Yael.
Alma to me is either Alma Pudden from an Enid Blyton book or Alma Sedgewick from Corrie Grin I can't get past it.
The first two are beautiful and elegant.

Lovesrilanka · 08/07/2017 00:30

I like Shiri is pretty, I like Shirin too.

MrsBadger · 08/07/2017 00:32

Shira is pretty but I love Yael.

ALittleMop · 08/07/2017 00:32

Love Yael

CyrusBeene · 08/07/2017 00:33

Thanks for the input everyone! We did consider Shiri but ruled it out due to the "i" sound clashing with the surname. So Shira was the one that made the list instead.

I love yael and shira but would worry about mispronunciation irritating me in the UK. Alma makes me think of alma mater but if uk based I think it is the safe choice. They are all nice names.

KoalaDownUnder · 08/07/2017 03:00

I have a massive crush on the name Yael.

Jooni · 08/07/2017 06:12

Yael is just gorgeous!

Jamhandprints · 08/07/2017 06:14

How do you say Yael? It looks nice.

MrsKlugscheisser · 08/07/2017 06:15

Ya-el. I wanted to use it for one of the DDs but DH said no. Also like Shira.

Elbi · 08/07/2017 10:47

Shira and Alma are lovely and fairly foolproof when it comes to pronunciation (particularly Alma).

chupsmelad · 08/07/2017 10:49

I also thought you meant Shiri. I'm not so keen on Shira, it reminds me of She-Ra, Princess of Power, but that's just me!

I love Yael and know a couple. It often turns into "Yell" in English but it's not really a problem.

Deploycharitygoats · 08/07/2017 10:54

Love Yael.

Sittingonthefence83 · 08/07/2017 11:09

Shira gets my vote. I too think of Alma from Corrie but that's just me.

Would you pronounce Yael as in Yale lock?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/07/2017 17:14

Shira.

Threeandabit · 08/07/2017 17:18

Alma is a wonderful name.

JessicaBearx · 08/07/2017 17:21

Alma

Evangelinda · 08/07/2017 17:24

Is Yael a version of the bible character Jael (in the christian bible). Because if so, I love it - she is my favourite bible character! Grin

Pemba · 08/07/2017 17:33

Yael may work in Hebrew, but I don't think it does in English. Not a very attractive sound IMO. Shiri is lovely though. Alma is OK.

CyrusBeene · 08/07/2017 17:42

Yael is pronounced Ya-el. Hmm what about Maya/Miriam when put up against Shira/Yael/Alma?

EssentialHummus · 08/07/2017 17:45

I dislike Alma, but like the other two. Prefer Maya to all, and it's much more international rather than recognisably Israeli (no idea whether that matters to you).
