Trying to pick between these 3 but we're at a stalemate!

I like Yael and Alma

deuxmoulins · 08/07/2017 18:53

Alma means 'soul' in Spanish, it's beautiful. I love them all but my order is Yael, Alma, Shira.

buttercup54321 · 08/07/2017 19:17

none of them
Shirley Ann?

27Harper · 08/07/2017 19:43

I like Yael it's pretty xx

ConstanceCraving · 08/07/2017 20:57

Yael is gorgeous.

alteredimages · 08/07/2017 21:06

I like Yael best, and I think that if you like it, then you shouldn't worry about what others think of it.

I dislike Maya because of Maya Diab, whose public persona is nauseatingly vacuous.

Morecoffeeurgently · 08/07/2017 21:26

In order of favourites:
Yael
Shiri
Alma (not at all keen on this one though.)

Clawdy · 08/07/2017 22:38

Alma sounds horrendously old-fashioned to me.I visualise a frumpy dour-faced old lady!

Bobbiepin · 08/07/2017 22:47

I love Miriam, especially with Miri as a nn. I wish my DH would consider more Hebrew names! Maybe Talia?

Ketzele · 08/07/2017 22:54

I like them all! [helpful]

I also like Carmel, Ayala, Talia, Nava, Ilana and Dalia.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/07/2017 22:54

Yale is lovely but people would mispronounce it all the time which could/would be annoying. Shira is lovely, imo, but not crazy about Alma.

Deploycharitygoats · 09/07/2017 06:47

Slightly off topic but @Ketzele your username makes me grin every time I see it Grin

Morecoffeeurgently · 09/07/2017 11:07

Also really like Miriam and Maya. But Yael still my favourite

Ketzele · 09/07/2017 23:03

Deploycharitygoats it's like my secret handshake for Yiddish-lovers on MN Wink

Kazzawazza69 · 09/07/2017 23:50

Not keen on any of them I'm afraid. Alma is an 'old lady name', Shira reminds me of Alan Shearer and Yael I just find a little awkward to pronounce. Maya is nice though.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 12/07/2017 15:18

Depends a bit on where you live, I think. In a cosmopolitan area like London, people are likely to have heard of Yael and pronounce it correctly. I know a Yael, and people constantly mispronounce it, even though she adds the apostrophe to make it more obvious how to say it (Ya'el). It's a beautiful name, but I think it would be a bit annoying to be constantly called "Yale" or "Yell" . Miriam is also lovely. I like Alma, but it would be considered old lady chic? You might find Maya is also not necessarily pronounced the way you might wish it to be.

tinhead · 12/07/2017 15:21

Love yael

FinnegansCake · 12/07/2017 16:41

I like Shirin better than Shira.
Yael is also nice.
I really don't like Alma.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/07/2017 16:55

I like Yael and Alma

TheLegendOfBeans · 12/07/2017 16:57

Yael is the winner for me.

I know such a smug annoying Alma it's ruined the name even though before I lived in N London I thought it was a name for elderly northern ladies

ASDismynormality · 12/07/2017 17:00

Maya and Miriam are my favourites from your list.

FuckleberryDunne · 12/07/2017 17:02

Yael is beautiful, and the singer, Yael Naim is very cool. I also love Alma.

nbee84 · 12/07/2017 17:04

Just throwing Meital into the mix.

Deploycharitygoats · 12/07/2017 17:45

Meital! I know a lovely Meital, though she spells it Maytal.

I used to love Dalia until I had not one, but two terrifying teachers called Dalia. Put me off the name for life Grin

OrgyofSausages · 12/07/2017 17:58

A friend's dd is called Jael whichis pronounced Zhael. I like it😁
