Right ladies give it to me straight. What's wrong with Arlo?
(Before I fall in love with the name!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mamalovesmojitos · 09/07/2017 01:00

Not a fan, personally. Will date IMO.

formerlyknownasuser1469397655 · 09/07/2017 01:25

The only 2 people named Arlo I've ever heard of is Woody Guthrie's son, Arlo Guthrie, who was born in 1947, and an old Sports commentator on Radio 5, Arlo White. I had to look up Arlo White's DOB, he was born in 1977.

I haven't met or heard of any associated with "real life" friends, but there again, I don't associate with anyone who can be considered "hipster".

I think it is a cool name, and for some reason (maybe because of the association with Woody Guthrie) I always bracket it together with the name Dylan.

DownUdderer · 09/07/2017 01:36

It's a 'cool' name from about 4 years ago, probably moving up in popularity in the next 5 years. A bit like a posh Archie

Buntysoven · 09/07/2017 01:43

My grandad was a huge Arlo Guthrie fan so hardly a new name. Yes it's having a revival but it deserves to. It's nice

PetalMettle · 09/07/2017 02:00

There was one in family affairs (outs self as only ever watcher) so not totally right now.
I like it personally

Stardustandicecream · 09/07/2017 07:02

Just really common - I know two

birdgal4848 · 09/07/2017 09:42

It depends from what area of the UK you are from as being from essex that name always just sounds like someone saying Harlow in lazy way!

SirNiallDementia · 09/07/2017 09:54

Not a name you'd use in the south east as it's how we pronounce Harlow (pretty grim place).

RelaxMax · 09/07/2017 10:14

What nonsense. I'm in London, know three Arlos and have always heard Harlow pronounced with the H.

merlottime · 09/07/2017 10:31

I lived in Harlow for 18 years before I escaped, and I never heard it pronounced with the H. Please don't saddle yourself with this OP!

PaperdollCartoon · 09/07/2017 10:33

It's lovely, and actually an old posh name, not a new silly made up one.

SuburbanRhonda · 09/07/2017 10:35

Do you have any other names on your list, OP?

If the alternatives are Bear and Forest, definitely go for Arlo!

duvetdaysgone · 09/07/2017 12:11

Arlo is the name of the cat in Bing. Cute name for a cat but not a baby. Just my preference Smile

DramaInPyjamas · 09/07/2017 12:29

I don't agree that it will date to 'exactly the year' etc it's trended up and down for years.
I know of a few in real life (not celebs) - one born in the 80s one born in the 90s and one born a few years ago.

I love it and it was on my list (in 2004) wish I had chosen it but dad-to-be hated it

llangennith · 09/07/2017 12:54

I'd never heard of it till 18 months ago when my niece named her baby boy Arlo. Loved it when I got used to it but as pp have said, it's very very common and will date.

WowserBowser · 09/07/2017 13:23

I have one. He's 6. Has definitely become more popular. Probs because I'm so cool.

TheWeeWitch · 09/07/2017 13:54

Yes, it's trendy at the moment, but it's an ancient name. It was top of our list for a while, I love it.

dementedma · 09/07/2017 16:53

Pretentious and sits alongside Cosmo, Noah,Lucas, Felix....

WowserBowser · 09/07/2017 17:22

I like all of those Grin

MissFitton · 09/07/2017 17:28
Grin

I have one too. He's nearly nine. I've never come across another one around here so quite to surprised to hear it's trendy!

WowserBowser · 09/07/2017 17:30

High five Miss !

TartanDMs · 09/07/2017 17:32

I know quite a few, and like pp said, the parents are all fairly hipster. It's not too bad, but is becoming ubiquitous.

Argeles · 09/07/2017 21:00

I think it sounds like a brand of yoghurt.

Celestia26 · 09/07/2017 21:07

It's how people say 'Harlow' where I'm from, with the dropped H. Not a fan.

ProseccoandPizza · 09/07/2017 21:10

Both 26 year old DB and almost 7 year old DS have Arlo as their middle name. I absolutely love it!
