I really like Archer, but also thinking about Ralph (Ralphie). Which do you prefer? Do they conjur up different boys? I normally like more vintage/old man boys names, is Archer too trendy? (And is Archie ok as a baby nn?) Thoughts on a postcard please!

LOVE Ralph!!! Archer I'm not a fan of. There's a big trend atm of people giving children occupation names, and I think those kinds of names (Archer, Hunter, Thatcher etc) are going to surge in popularity, then decline and sound dated.

Archer is a stupid name, not really a name like pps said. Archie is OK. Ralph sounds too old IMO - can't imagine a child called this.

You know, Ralph will one day be a man! In fact he'll be a man for much longer than a small baby Grin

Ralph is definitely a cool baby, popular in our neck of the woods. Love it, esp nn Ralphie! Also love Rafe. Very surprised at reactions to Archer on here, it's a pretty well known name these days. I think it's very handsome. How about Ralph Archer or Archer Ralph.

Ralph is nice, and timeless. Archer I think is one of those names that's come from the US. It's not horrible but I think it's very much of its time and people will always be able to tell how old he is from his name (in the way that the majority of Sharons are now 40 -60, but an Emma could be 80, 48, 28 or 8 months). Ralph could be any age and it won't suddenly become naff.
