I really like Archer, but also thinking about Ralph (Ralphie). Which do you prefer? Do they conjur up different boys? I normally like more vintage/old man boys names, is Archer too trendy? (And is Archie ok as a baby nn?) Thoughts on a postcard please!

I prefer Archer. Not at all keen on Ralph.

Onceafortnight · 08/06/2017 19:55

Not keen on either but Archer at a push.

Jooni · 08/06/2017 20:20

Archer is nice, Archie's cute for a baby but a bit overdone.

I like Ralph/Ralphie. I'd go with that one, it's more "vintage/old man" and far less popular.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/06/2017 20:27

I'd also go with Ralph/Ralphie.
I do like Archer, but not Archie.

Benedikte2 · 08/06/2017 20:58

How would you pronounce Ralph? The American way sounding the L or the trad English way of Rafe? I like the latter but not so keen on the American way.
Archer is ok but not Archie. To me it's like a finger Mail on a blackboard -- really unpleasant screeching sound

bridgetreilly · 08/06/2017 21:01

Archer is not a name.
Ralph is lovely.

Nospringflower · 08/06/2017 21:09

Dont love either but think Archer is a bit better.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 08/06/2017 21:11

I'd go with Ralph. Archer is peach schnapps.

Mclaren37 · 09/06/2017 06:40

I like Archer, we have one, but Ralph is now on my list. So either is one fab, sorry not much use! What about Rafe?

grufallosfriend · 09/06/2017 10:57

Ralph is a lovely international name! Classic and underused.

I don't like Archer much but really dislike Archie.

Sophronia · 09/06/2017 11:09

Ralph is better. Archer isn't really a name, it just seems to be used by people who want a full name for Archie but don't like Archibald.

MrsPringles · 09/06/2017 11:12

I'm not keen on Ralph but it's definitely becoming more popular, I know a handful of baby Ralph's and don't really think that Archer is a proper name but I have an Archie so perhaps that clouds my judgement on that one Grin

(Most of MN dislikes the name Archie I've learnt though!)

picketfences · 09/06/2017 11:24

I love Archer, but I'm put off using it as I mentioned it to a friend who exclaimed 'you can't call a baby that!' And started laughing Sad

I do love it tho. Very masculine.

picketfences · 09/06/2017 11:25

Not keen on Ralph, but that's just my personal preference.

chipscheeseandgravy · 09/06/2017 11:45

I hate Ralph. I have no idea why Confused. Love archer :), agree that it makes a nice difference to Archie which is every 6th child where I live.

MikeUniformMike · 09/06/2017 11:51

Dislike both.

sonlypuppyfat · 09/06/2017 11:53

Both are awful, sorry

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/06/2017 13:44

I like Archer but Archie is terrible. Asher? Ash is pretty bad though. Ralph dull IMO.

Abetes · 09/06/2017 13:50

Sorry I don't like them either.

MrsEricBana · 09/06/2017 13:50

Archer? What?

indigox · 09/06/2017 13:55

Archer

silkpyjamasallday · 09/06/2017 16:24

Ralph yes lovely name. Archer sounds try hard to me.

harderandharder2breathe · 09/06/2017 18:28

I know several dogs called Ralphie so I vote Archer for a human baby

Ojoj1974 · 09/06/2017 22:13

Really dislike Archer
Archie's very popular
Like Ralph but LOVE ❤️ Rafe much more.
